Definition of Work:
Works closely with the Library Director to develop, implement and evaluate the Library’s marketing plan. This individual will use their expertise to increase public awareness of Library services, resources and activities while expanding the Library’s role as a community hub. Requires public relations, marketing, and graphic design skills and knowledge, as well as an understanding of the Library’s mission and the community the Library serves. A successful candidate will be a team player who enjoys collaborating with other staff, the media, and the public.
Essential Duties:
- Develops, implements, and evaluates the marketing plan, policies, and procedures to promote the Library’s image and the public’s awareness of Library services in collaboration with the Assistant Director for Library Services.
- Manages social media accounts, proactively recognizes trends, and creates original content. Maintains and encourages positive interactions with the public on these platforms.
- Cultivates and maintains a positive working relationship with the media contacts. Coordinates film shoots and marketing events for media outlets.
- Collaborates with department managers and other staff to coordinate marketing and promotional efforts and provides guidance on creating press releases, calendar postings and other marketing efforts in order to maintain cohesive messaging and brand identity.
- Writes, edits and sends out press releases and media information in tandem with the library branches.
- Creates and sends out promotional emails, surveys, and other communication pieces; tracks and analyzes patron involvement and retention on our online community engagement platform.
- Experience with Canva, Adobe, and Facebook Business Suite.
- Helps develop and oversees the production of brochures, flyers, handouts, posters and signs for Library services and events.
- Serves as a member of the Marketing Committee and Management Team. Works with members to coordinate efforts to promote the Library’s image and monitors the library’s online presence.
- Plans publicity for Library events and speaks at group and networking events to increase public awareness of services, resources and activities offered by the Library.
- Participates in budget development for the marketing area and purchases promotional items on behalf of the Library.
- Manages the Library’s website and online presence.
- Assists with special Library events, outreach, and photographs Library events for publicity purposes.
- Collaborates on grants that will enhance and promote the Library’s image.
- Works collaboratively with staff and trustees to increase public awareness of Library services, resources and activities.
- Assists with strategic planning, community input sessions, and fundraising campaigns.
- Attends and participates in Library meetings and conferences.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Library Director.
Requirements for Position:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or related field preferred. Applicants with Associate degrees or degrees in progress may be considered, provided application outlines equivalent knowledge and skills.
- Minimum of two years’ work related experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- An aptitude for graphic design and photography; with the ability to write, edit and lay out print materials.
- Portfolio, current websites, and/or promotional designs available for review.
- High clerical aptitude, detail oriented, with excellent computer and keyboarding skills. Adept at using Windows, Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
