Location: Central Services Offices, High Ridge, MO

 

Position Overview

The Technical Services Logistical Clerk I is responsible for assigned duties related to the daily operations of the Technical Services department. They perform specialized and highly detailed tasks related to operations in that department by carrying out the very physical logistical processes of Missouri Evergreen resource sharing materials, receiving shipments of Acquisitions orders, and occasional clerical operations under the close supervision of the Technical Services Manager. The Technical Services Clerk I is expected to demonstrate good judgment, accept assigned responsibilities, function as part of a team, and represent the Library in a positive way to the public. The Technical Services Clerk I may be assigned additional tasks or responsibilities that require critical thinking as well as careful organization and planning. This classification is not responsible for the supervision of other library employees.  In cases of emergency, the Library Senior Clerk I acts only under the direction of a library supervisor.


This classification reports to the Technical Services Manager, who provides immediate supervision and direction on policies, procedures, and priorities.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Missouri Evergreen Logistics - 75%   
    • Receives items being routed to Missouri Evergreen libraries from JCL branches, distributes and packs them appropriately.
    • Distributes items received from Missouri Evergreen libraries to appropriate JCL branches.
    • Maintains contact with MALA staff regarding JCL’S stores of courier supplies.
    • Keeps accurate statistics for all logistical activities
  • Acquisitions Receiving – 10%
    • Checks shipments against invoices or packing slips, paying attention to owning branch and any problems with shipments.
    • Identifies bestsellers and high-demand items for priority processing.
    • Forwards shipments not related to Technical Services to appropriate staff.
  • Physical Item Processing – 5%
    • Mylars and laminates items as time allows
    • Relabels items when necessary
  • General Office Tasks and Other Duties as Assigned – 10%
    • Answers telephone for Central Services and forwards calls to appropriate staff when necessary
    • Separates Courier mail from the various Branches
    • Distributes courier items to Central Services staff as necessary
    • Separates and distributes postal mail
    • Uses various office machinery, e.g., fax machine, copier, postage meter, paper shredder
    • Collects and disposes of Central Services recycling

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to carry up to 55 lb. loads over 100 feet
  • Ability to stand for five-hour periods with minimal breaks
  • Ability to bend, twist, and kneel
  • Ability to push a loaded book cart (approximately 50 lbs) a distance of 25 feet without stopping
  • Ability to use a step stool and to lift 2 lbs. overhead to a height of 7.5 ft. 
  • Ability to read 10 pt. type
  • Ability to speak clearly and audibly to people standing at 4 ft. distance
  • Physical dexterity and ability to operate a computer keyboard, a touch-key telephone receiver and other office equipment


Minimum Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, plus necessary clerical skills as required by particular position. 
  • Familiarity with computers and standard business software or Internet browsers
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to file both alphabetically and numerically
  • Legible handwriting and strong spelling skills
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks
  • Ability to retain accuracy in repetitive tasks
  • Ability to perform detailed work in an organized manner
  • Ability to function in a busy environment with minimal intervention by supervisor
  • Ability to communicate clearly with members of the public
  • Excellent telephone manners
  • Must pass criminal records check

Working Conditions:


Compensatory time must be given for all time worked over 40 hours in a week. Overtime requires advance approval from the Library Manager.



Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.
