What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Assistant position at Jefferson County Prosecutor's Office?
General Purpose:
This position serves as a Legal Assistant for the Prosecutor’s Office, responsible for preparing legal documents and correspondence, and assisting attorneys with case preparation.
Duties:
Assist attorneys as assigned, including attending legal proceedings, coordinating and assisting victims and witnesses, updating calendars, scheduling depositions, and assisting with case files and related documents.
Answers telephone and greets office visitors, providing information and assistance, taking messages, and transferring/directing to appropriate individual or department. Responds to telephone inquiries regarding department policies and procedures and specific cases.
Prepares a variety of documents for court hearings and/or trials, including but not limited to e-files, briefs, motions, and pleadings. Prepares subpoenas for trials/hearings, and files subpoenas with Clerk’s Office.
Prepares and assembles case files, including forwarding appropriate information, filing documents, preparing/mailing correspondence and other documents, disposing of closed files, requesting necessary documents from law enforcement to complete case evidence, preparing and distributing discovery materials to the defense attorney.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Applicant should have the ability to communicate effectively, follow instructions, prioritize tasks, and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and partner agencies. Applicant should be proficient in word processing. Knowledge of court practices and procedures is preferred.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $43,000.00 per year
