POSITION: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher for the Summer ESY Program (as needed)

 

EMPLOYMENT TERM: *This position will be as needed determined by student needs. The successful applicant will be able to work the days the program is in operation.

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Program Director/Site Supervisor

 

SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with

Jefferson County Professional Salary Schedule, commensurate

with experience and education level

 

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

  

JOB SUMMARY: Program days: *July 14, 2025- July 31, 2025

Prep days: *July 11, 2025- August 1, 2025

 

*Must possess current West Virginia certification.

JOB SUMMARY: Plan and provide appropriate services to deaf and hard of hearing students to
help insure that the students meet the learning objectives and standards for the appropriate grade
level. Be able to assess students and provide educational intervention to eliminate or reduce
problems that interfere with each student's ability to derive full benefit from the educational
program.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Teach deaf and hard of hearing students
o Consult with parents, classroom teachers, other professionals, and support staff regarding
student educational needs
o Provide direct instructional services with deaf and hard of hearing students as outlined on
the IEP
o Order, if necessary, and monitor amplification systems
o Perform any other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned in order to maintain an
efficient program.
o Develop specific and appropriate IEP goals based on data and the educational needs of
each individual deaf and hard of hearing student
o Maintain data information and progress in meeting goals for evaluation and planning
purposes
o Exemplify high standards of professional conduct
o Maintain open communication with parents, administrators, teachers, and
supervisory/support personnel
o Actively participate in curriculum development efforts, professional growth options, and
appropriate organizational activities
o Participate in development and the continual evaluation of deaf and hard of hearing
services. Assist in the implementation of any changes based on the findings
o Counsel and involve parents in the educational process
o Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities
o Provide professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify
and understand the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing student
o Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and
interests of students
o Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Services


QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid state certification requirements licensing the individual to work in the specialization,
pursuant to WV Code § l SA-3-2; Criminal background check conducted pursuant
to WV Code § 18-5-1 Sc and/or§ 1SA-3-10, as appropriate; Meet the qualifications
outlined in WV Code § l 8A-3-2a.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach,
stand, walk, lift, grasp, write, talk, hear, see, use technology such as computers and multimedia equipment, and use repetitive motions. While performing the duties of this job,
the employee may frequently lift and/or move at least 10 pounds of materials.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read
handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the
individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and
other staff members.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an
employee encounters while perfonning the essential functions of this job. Reasonable
accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perfonn the
essential functions. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor
settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is
low to moderate (20-60 dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/
technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB).

A successful work history and a minimum of three supervisory references required for consideration.
