Job Summary:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) will provide purposeful and meaningful goal-directed activities to evaluate and provide interventions for students identified by the Individual Education Plan (IEP) under the supervision of a Certified Occupational Therapist.
Qualifications:
Illinois State License
Occupational Therapy Degree from an Accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
Maintain Certification every three years from the National Board of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
Evaluation:
This job's performance will be evaluated per provisions of the Board’s policy on the Evaluation of Staff.

Terms of Employment:
This is a 9-month position with salary and benefits determined by the Board of Education. The role is part of the Related Services Team and falls under the Related Services agreement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver safe and effective occupational therapy services under the supervision of and in partnership with the Occupational Therapist.
- Collaborate with the Occupational Therapist to develop student goals and objectives.
- Support and understand students' occupational therapy goals and objectives.
- Demonstrate and document service competency for services, assessments, and interventions in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist.
- Contribute to the evaluation process by implementing delegated assessments and providing verbal and written reports of assessments, performance analyses, and student capacities to the Occupational Therapist.
- Select, implement, and modify occupational therapy interventions consistent with demonstrated competence levels and student goals in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist.
- Provide documentation and information to the Occupational Therapist about students’ responses and communication during intervention.
- Understand students' outcomes and provide information and documentation related to outcome achievement.
- Implement outcome measurement and provide resources and progress monitoring to inform transition or exit from services.
- Incorporate cultural diversity and appreciation within the curriculum.
- Utilize technologies appropriately in the teaching and learning process.
- Participate in professional learning communities with various stakeholders, including instructional staff, parents, and community resources, to improve student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
- Attend a variety of meetings and professional development activities to convey or gather information required to perform job functions.
- Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with parents and the community.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands of this position include frequent sitting and standing for extended periods. Repetitive bending at the waist, kneeling, stooping, and crouching to assist students are also required. Regularly walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
