Job Title: Residential Plans Examiner/Building Plans Examiner
About the Position:
This position is responsible for examining construction plans and blueprints for residential or commercial construction, alterations, and renovations for compliance with the Parish building code, zoning, and related Parish ordinances. The successful candidate will also issue building permits and provide information to the public, property owners, contractors, developers, architects, engineers, and other interested parties.
Key Responsibilities:
• Examine construction plans and blueprints for compliance with Parish building codes and regulations
• Issue building permits for residential and commercial construction, alterations, and renovations
• Provide information to the public, property owners, contractors, developers, architects, engineers, and other interested parties on building codes, zoning, and permit requirements
• Consult with architects, engineers, contractors, and others regarding projects
• Maintain records of all building permit applications and maps indicating new streets, buildings, and addresses
• Stay up-to-date on changes to building codes and regulations
Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or higher in civil engineering, construction management, architectural drafting/design, or a closely related field preferred
• At least three years of work experience as a general construction contractor, building construction superintendent, architectural designer/draftsperson, or technical inspector/reviewer of residential or commercial construction plans
• Current certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Building Plans Examiner preferred
Work Environment:
This position requires working in an office setting, primarily performing administrative tasks and reviewing documents. The employee may be required to report to and work at either location as directed. The employee must also be able to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
