Purpose of Announcement
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF JEFFERSON COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM - HEAD START.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur.
Kind of Work
The purpose of this position is to implement the program's curriculum, focusing on the developmental needs of preschoolers. Under the direction of the Head Start Teacher, provides supervision of children to ensure the total development of the child. Employee assists the teacher in establishing a proper classroom environment and responsible for preparing the physical environment for activities, rest times, and mealtimes. Assists in the supervision of the children in learning proper hygiene and eating habits as well as ensuring the children are receiving proper medical and / or physical assistance. Assists teacher in maintaining accurate classroom records as required. Prepares records for the children as directed by the teacher. Employee must be able to drive to various locations and centers to perform job duties, and must be willing to work on both West Bank and East Bank of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
Minimum age of eighteen (18) years and possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
PREFERRED : Current enrollment in a Child Development Associate (CDA) credentialing program or possession of a CDA credential.
Proof of education is required.
NOTE : Any conviction listed in the Louisiana Child Protection Act (LA R.S. 15 : 587.1) is considered disqualifying, unless written proof of pardon is submitted in time for consideration with the application.

Vacation (Annual Leave)
Employees accumulate one half day of paid vacation for every two weeks worked.
Leave accrual rates increase with years of service. Any unused annual leave is
usually paid upon separation from Parish Employment.

Medical Insurance
An HMO medical insurance plan is avalable for employees and their
dependents. Jefferson Parish pays 80% of the premium for employees and 50% of
the premiums for dependents.
A Flexible Benefits Plan
Employees have the opportunity to save money by paying for health
insurance and optional insurance with pre-tax dollars. A Flexible Savings
Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available.
Retirement
Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement
System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after
January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service
is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with
10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service.
Tenure Payment
Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year.
Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.
Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan)
Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer
up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings.
Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without
penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions 1-877-677-3678.
Special leaves of absence for military service, maternity leave, etc.
