Coordinator of PK Instruction

Position Description:

The Coordinator of PK Instruction is responsible for providing instructional support to school principals, master teachers, and teaching including but not limited to assisting teachers in their efforts to ensure full implementation of the PK curriculum and ensure students mastery of standards and attainment of Student Learning Targets (SLTs). Instructional support responsibilities include designing and providing professional development opportunities and instructional resources for teachers, master teachers, and principals, ensuring linkages across curriculum, standards-based assessments, and effective teacher-student interactions.

Director of Early Childhood

Scope of Responsibility:

• Assists in designing, writing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating curriculum and instructional practices in schools.
• Links standards-based assessments to assist teachers in their goal of ensuring students’ mastery of standards.
• Provides and develops materials of instruction for PK.
• Coordinates and facilitates the evaluation and selection of instructional materials.
• Assures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations/policies.
• Writes or revises grants and projects as assigned.
• Provides instructional assistance to local schools.
• Provides professional development to staff and informs school principals of scheduled professional development sessions offered by the state and other entities.
• Collaborates with building and district administrators to assess program effectiveness and develop appropriate improvement objectives for the capacity building of instructional leaders.
• Maintains connections with schools via the Administrative Update, website, email, and scheduled visits.
• Assists in the organization of the PK CLASS observations.
• Prepares written reports and oral presentation relative to Curriculum, instruction, and Accountability matters.
• Participates in observations with leaders and master teachers for the purpose of ensuring inter-rater agreement.
• Drives district goals and initiatives, including the implementation of high quality curricula.
• Facilitates instructional workshops for teachers and master teachers and provides coaching and exemplary models of instructional practices in teachers’ classrooms.
• Conducts weekly meetings with master teachers and leaders at school sites to coach cluster meetings and leadership tam observations.
• Performs any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications, as assigned by the Director of Early Childhood.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
• Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience at the elementary level
• Collaborative management style with a proven track record of working with diverse individuals to drive decision-making and results
• High degree of professionalism with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking
• Ability to organize and motivate people
• Ability to conduct effective meetings and staff development activities
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
• Maintain knowledge of technological advances in the field
• Integrity, initiative, and good moral character
• Understanding of regulations regarding the operation of Louisiana schools including, but not limited to Bulletin 741, 1530, 1706, 130, 140 and 1508
• Ability to relate to students, staff, administration, parents and community
• Possess desirable attributes of personality, enthusiasm, and interpersonal skills

Desirable Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in education from an accredited college or university
• Experience with curriculum, instruction, and assessment development in the district, state or national level
• Active affiliations with professional organizations related to scope of job responsibilities
• National Board certification

Physical Involvement:

Sitting is required most of each workday. Must be able to operate office equipment.  Standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required. Ability to provide own transportation to schools, work locations, and meeting sites. Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations, including locations not on the ground floor.
