What are the responsibilities and job description for the BUILDING INSPECTOR I (5101) position at Jefferson Parish?
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING PERMITS.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur.The purpose of this position is to conduct field inspections for new construction, installations, alterations and additions to existing residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with existing standards, current adopted codes, and ordinances. Investigates building and zoning complaints for appropriate permits and ordinance/code violations. Issues violation notices of code violations requiring corrective action, conducts follow up inspections, testifies at legal proceedings as needed regarding inspections/violations. Writes inspection reports, records inspection fees and notices, logs daily activities, responds to questions from the public, contractors, property owners and others regarding building inspections and Building Permit related questions. Employee in this position will be required to perform after hours and weekend inspections as well as be required to work both banks of the river as needed. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.
NOTE: Employees will be required to obtain certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Residential Building Inspector or Commercial Building Inspector prior to the completion of their probationary periods.Possession of a Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Architecture, Engineering or closely related field,
SUBSTITUTION: College training in Architecture, Engineering, or related field may substitute for the required work experience on a year for year basis.
Proof of education is required and should be submitted at the time of application. Applicants should provide a complete, detailed account of past work history.
PREFERRED: Current certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Residential Building Inspector and/or Commercial Building Inspector.
Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
