What are the responsibilities and job description for the EARLY HEAD START TEACHER (6708) position at Jefferson Parish?
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL FIVE (5) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCIES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF JEFFERSON COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAMS.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur.Under direct supervision, the purpose of this position is to plan, organize, implement, and coordinate with other classroom teaching staff, classroom activities to ensure the educational, social/emotional, medical and nutritional requirements of the HS B-5 Program and the children are met. This position plans and implements learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of infants and toddlers, including improving the readiness of children for school by developing their social emotional development, their perceptual, motor, and physical development, their understanding of language and communication.Employees in this classification perform professional and administrative work. The EHS teacher is responsible for the active supervision of all infant/toddlers and volunteers. The EHS Teacher is responsible for the daily activities of the class to provide for the overall comprehensive development of each infant and toddler and maintaining the classroom environment, communicating daily with parents concerning children's activities.
Note: Employee possessing a Child Development Associate without the Infant/Toddler focus will be required to complete training in infant and toddler development prior to the completion of probation.

*Coursework relating to ECE may include courses offered in various college departments (e.g., Education, Psychology, Library Sciences, Recreation...etc.) but must address early childhood education or child development with a focus on preschool aged children.

- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent and certification as a Child Development Associate (CDA).
- Possession of an accredited Associate's degree (or higher) in Early Childhood Education (ECE), or an equivalent education major focusing on child development, including successful completion of coursework with a specific focus on infants/toddlers (ages birth to 3 years).
- Possession of an accredited Associate's degree (or higher) in any major of study, to include at least eighteen (18) credit hours relating to ECE*; PLUS: must have successful completion of coursework with a specific focus on infants/toddlers or responsible experience working with infants/toddlers at a registered school or child care center.
