EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE JEFFERSON PROTECTION AND ANIMAL WELFARE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCURRED.Under direction, performs responsible work involving the supervision of employees engaged in attending to animals. Employees in this classification handle the daily operations and supervision of JPAWS Care Attendant I and JPAWS Care Attendant II's. Position is responsible for training staff, supervising staff, and performing daily administrative activities. This position performs a variety of supervisory duties to include assigning, instructing, and reviewing work of subordinate staff, monitoring work performance, maintaining standards through the effective coordination of activities, and handling various personnel issues. Assists Veterinarian in the administration of inoculation and euthanasia. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate but not to exceed the listed salary range.

Possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent; PLUS, one (1) of the following:
1. Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish and one (1) year of paid work experience in the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter.
2. Successful completion of accredited college course work in Veterinary Technology/Science with specific courses in Veterinary Physiology, Veterinary Parasitology, Veterinary Anatomy, Diseases and Disease Control of Small Animals and Animal Hospital Technology.
3. Two (2) years of verifiable, full-time, paid work experience involving the handling and care of animals and the responsibility for preparing and maintaining work records and reports.
4. Certification as an Animal Euthanasia Technician.
