EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL FOUR (4) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCIES AND FOUR (4) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCIES ALL IN THE SEWERAGE DEPARTMENT.

1. Possession of a high school diploma, equivalency certificate, or completion of a vocational trade school (not limited to short specified courses);
2. Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish; PLUS, at least six (6) months of verifiable experience involving the maintenance of a sewer lift station.(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform inspections of operating and equipment conditions as well as perform routine mechanical maintenance work at sewerage lift and pumping stations on an assigned route of the Parish. Employees in this classification are responsible for inspecting equipment operating conditions, adjusting settings and conditions, and performing minor maintenance to ensure uninterrupted flow of Parish sewerage operations. This position will inspect wet well conditions; cleans wet wells, adhering to safety standards regarding proper handling of chemicals. Employee will address equipment malfunctions and report any perceived or potential problems concerning operations defects to maintenance and repair personnel, or supervisor in a timely manner. Performs other related work as required. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
