EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur.Under general direction, the purpose of this position is to provide routine maintenance and minor repairs on small engine equipment, such as weedeaters, blowers, mowers, etc. in maintenance and at playgrounds. Employee will be responsible for keeping records of locations, service schedules, maintenance, etc. Operate general maintenance equipment, such as tractors, mowers, edgers, chain saws, hedge trimmers, weedeaters, self-propelled sweeper/vacuums, paint-stripping machines, sprinkler systems, etc. May be required to drive pickup trucks and haul material as well as tow a utility trailer. Assures all safety procedures are followed through regular inspections, to include inspecting and issuing of safety equipment. Work schedule may vary as determined by recreational activities and may involve weekdays, weekends and holidays, as needed. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish and a minimum of six (6) months of experience assisting with the routine maintenance and repair of small, grass cutting equipment, including engines with a power rating of twenty (20) horsepower or less (e.g., mowers, tractors, and edgers).

A minimum of one (1) year of verifiable, paid work experience in the maintenance, diagnostic troubleshooting, and repair of small, grass cutting equipment, including engines with a power rating of twenty (20) horsepower or less (e.g., mowers, tractors, and edgers).Substitution: Completion of trade school in a curriculum relevant to the work to be performed may substitute for the required experience.(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment.
