EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN ELIGIBLE LIST TO FILL THREE (3) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCIES AND FIVE (5) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCIES IN THE WATER METER SECTION OF THE WATER DEPARTMENT.
VACANCIES IN THE LINE MAINTENANCE SECTION WILL BE FILLED BY SEPARATE LIST.The purpose of this position is to recheck meter reads that are too high or too low taken by Water Service Inspector I's. The employee is required to investigate customer complaints about a water bill. The employee installs meters; removes meters; opens or closes water meters when a water bill is not paid; removes meters at the request of the customer; brings meters to the warehouse for testing; changes out damaged meters; performs repair work on water meters; and locates water meters which may be under mud, trash piles, parked or non-operating vehicles. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or her designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.

Applicants must meet at least one (1) of the following:
1. Current employment with the Water Department and permanent civil service status in the class of Water Service Inspector I.
2. High school diploma or equivalent; plus, at least one (1) year of full-time, paid work experience in the reading and/or trouble shooting of water meters.
3. High school diploma or equivalent; plus at least two (2) years of work experience in the use of, installation, maintenance, and/or repair of small equipment, mechanical devices, instrumentation, gauges or other measuring devices which exhibits the knowledge and skill to operate hand tools and perform repair and maintenance of small devices and equipment.(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
