Director of Finance

Jefferson Wells is seeking a Controller for a client or ours in the not-for-profit sector. This position would require working onsite 5 days a week in the Southfield, MI area. This would be a contract to hire role or permanent.

Summary

The Controller is a key member of the finance team, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This role requires a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), non-profit accounting principles, and grant accounting regulations. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with a passion for supporting the mission of [Organization Name].

Key Responsibilities :

Financial Accounting & Reporting :

Oversee all aspects of the accounting cycle, including accounts payable / receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.

Manage the audit process and coordinate with external auditors.

Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.

Grant Management :

Oversee the grant application and reporting process, ensuring compliance with all grant requirements and deadlines.

Monitor grant expenditures and prepare timely and accurate grant reports.

Build and maintain strong relationships with grantors.

Budgeting & Forecasting :

Develop and manage annual budgets in collaboration with department heads.

Prepare and monitor monthly financial forecasts.

Analyze financial performance and provide insightful reports to management.

Financial Analysis & Reporting :

Prepare and analyze key financial metrics to track organizational performance.

Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.

Team Management :

Supervise and mentor accounting staff.

Develop and implement internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records. Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) preferred.

CPA preferred, not required.

Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting and finance, with at least 3 years of experience in the non-profit sector.

Strong accounting close experience.

Strong understanding of GAAP, non-profit accounting principles, and grant accounting regulations.

Experience with grant management.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Sage would be a plus.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
