Dr. Schildhorn is a highly skilled Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with over 16 years of experience and practices in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, NY. His team strives to create a welcoming atmosphere where patients are treated like family. He specializes in Sports Medicine as well as the shoulder, hip, and knee joint, and emphasizes patient education and consistent communication throughout his treatment course.

Qualifications:

  • Pre-med student who graduated from a 4-year institution and is applying to medical school
  • Poised, professional, and friendly demeanor with excellent communication skills
  • Able to accommodate patients and respond to their needs in a courteous manner
  • Able to respond quickly and appropriately and manage difficult or emotional situations
  • Familiar with medical terminology, especially as it pertains to orthopedics
  • Accurate and fast data entry skills
  • Knowledge of computers and EMR software
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to work with interruptions and adapt to rapidly changing priorities
  • Self-motivated to find ways to increase efficiency
  • Curiosity and genuine interest in orthopedics

Responsibilities:

  • Full time Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm (optional virtual work on Monday)
  • Flexibility to occasionally arrive early or stay late to accommodate patients’ schedules
  • Escorts patient flow to and from exam rooms and imaging areas
  • Takes the patient’s history and presents the information to the doctor, including any relevant imaging and test reports
  • Enters the patient room with the physician to capture and transcribe medical record documentation utilizing EMR
  • Performs clinical duties such as stitches or staple removal, basic wound care, setting up for injection, cast placement or removal, and fitting patients with boots, slings, or splints
  • Personally works with patients to inquire about their needs and individually matches them with an appropriate physical therapist, sends referrals to facilities or other specialists promptly
  • Ensures exam rooms are cleaned after each patient and prepared for the next
  • Keeps exam rooms stocked with supplies needed for injections, cast application or removal, wound care, etc
  • Creates and updates patient medical records including accurately scanning and indexing documents and reports into the EMR system
  • Answers patients’ questions and provides assistance when necessary
  • Obtains authorization for and schedules surgeries / procedures
  • Establishes and maintains an effective communication and relationship with the physician and office staff
  • Calls insurance companies to verify patient eligibility and informs patient
  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities such as sending and receiving medical records, obtaining labs / X-ray reports or hospital notes
  • Provides reception assistance (i.e. greeting patients, answering calls, helping patients make new appointments)
  • Coordinates with office staff to ensure optimal workflow
  • Other duties as needed

Benefits:

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
