Division: Retail Operations

Status: Regular, Full-time, Exempt

Pay Grade: $46,628.00 - $50,628.00 (DOQ)

Reports to: Director of Retail Operations

Job Summary

The Mosaic, Jekyll Island Museum, is your Gateway to the Gilded Era! Take a journey of discovery through daily programs, interpretive exhibits, and the gift shop. The Gift Shop Manager plays an important role in providing visitors an exceptional experience. Responsibilities of the Gift Shop Manager includes providing customers with exceptional customer service, supervising gift shop operation such as inventory control, training and motivating staff, and maintaining accurate accounting records.

Job Description

  • Interviews, selects and trains employees.
  • Schedules employees based on operational needs of the store.
  • Assigns goals to effectively manage employee’s day to day activities.
  • Identifies current and future customer requirements by establishing a rapport with customers.
  • Works closely with Retail Director and Mosaic staff daily.
  • Ensures availability of merchandise by replenishing store stock levels daily.
  • Resolves customer inquiries and complaints in a professional and timely manner.
  • Responsible for the store’s inventory control. Assists in inventory counts, identifies shortages or surpluses and reports all discrepancies to the Retail Director.
  • Monitors and controls wages and store expenses based on operating budget and expected customer visitation projections.
  • Protects employees and customers by providing a safe and clean store environment.
  • Maintains the stability and reputation of the store by complying with legal requirements.
  • Responsible for servicing and maintaining the online sales website portion of the Mosaic inventory.
  • Keeps abreast of all Mosaic’s operations and events by attending Mosaic’s staff meetings. Makes sure all guest services staff is aware of changes at the beginning of each shift.
  • Prepares daily store deposit and daily revenue reports. Ensures that all store accounting reports are accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper PCI compliance as required by credit card regulations.
  • Responsible for maintaining proper cash controls in the gift shop.
  • Maintains a clean, neat, and sanitary work environment.
  • Contributes to the team effort by striving for increased store sales.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a high school degree or a recognized equivalent. Associates degree or higher preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years in retail store management required.
  • Proven experience in pricing, vendor relationships, market knowledge, staffing, management proficiency, verbal and written communication.
  • Must be detail-oriented and work well in fast-paced environment.
  • Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Must be outgoing, personable, friendly, and love working with people

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • More than 50% of the typical work day will be spent standing.
  • Between 25 and 50% of the day will be spent walking, lifting, grasping, feeling and climbing, pushing, and pulling.
  • Less than 25% of the day will be spent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and sitting.
  • Sensory abilities required include vision, hearing and touching with more than 50% of the day spent communicating; talking and hearing.
  • Must have visual clarity to determine accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned as well as close visual clarity to prepare, analyze data and figures and operate and view a computer.
  • Majority of work will be performed within an indoor office environment. Typically work is not conducted in adverse environmental conditions.
  • Noise level is considered quiet to normal.
