We are seeking a Solidworks Fixture Designer to join a local manufacturing company in Oconomowoc for a year long minimum contract.
Pay: $40-45/HR
Description:
This engineer must have mechanical engineering experience along with assembly and welding fixture design experience. Must be proficient in SolidWorks. The manufacturing engineer will look at prints, follow up with engineers, design it and either have the fixtures machined onsite or order it. The person would assist with the construction of these fixtures, ensure the fixtures meet quality standards and prove them out. The individual will be working on all new product development for our mobility products. Ideal candidate would have PDM experience too. 100% onsite
Position Summary and Purpose:
- Promote lean manufacturing practices with an emphasis on driving continuous improvements
- Eliminate waste, improve delivered product quality, propose cost and labor reduction initiatives.
- Design and oversee the construction of weld, assembly, manufacturing, and test fixtures.
- Troubleshoot product/process issues.
Education and Experience:
- 3-5 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in a manufacturing process control and troubleshooting (in a medium volume shop).
- Proficient in SolidWorks.
- Must have assembly fixture design experience.
- PDM experience preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities focused on safety, quality, on time delivery and cost.
- Design and produce custom fixtures for production of weldments, manufactured items and assembly and/or work with outside suppliers on fixture requirements and designs.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to optimize new and current products / processes.
- Provide feedback on manufacturability and critical processes to engineering and product development.
- Assist in troubleshooting existing design and process issues.
- Assist in researching and implementing new technologies and automation in our production equipment and processes.
- Perform tests to verify validity of fixture design.
- Participate in design for manufacturability review.
Skills and Abilities:
- Read, analyze, and interpret a variety of information, such as technical procedures, business correspondence, and governmental regulations furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Create business-level written correspondence and verbally present information to internal and external customers.
- Requires job-related software skills, CAD, CAM, Minitab and MS Office as well as ERP and the ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment.
- Aptitude for problem solving.
- Demonstrated ability to work on cross functional teams to help build a world class business.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
- Regular office environment, approximately 50%
- Modern production facility/engineering lab with heat and air conditioning approximately 45%
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle, or touch; and talk and hear.
- The employee is regularly required to stand, squat and walk to evaluate product and fixtures.
- The employee is required to lift up to 30 pounds, regularly; up to 50 pounds, occasionally.
