Position Summary : The CNC Machinist III Lead 2nd Shift will lead by example, nurture a positive working environment, utilize manpower, maintain the quality of product, meet timelines and promote continuous improvement while promoting and practicing out Values.
Areas of Accountability :
- Demonstrates leadership and sets a positive example for the team in all matters.
- Prioritizes work for all Machinists on 2nd shift, and coordinates with the 1st shift Lead. Follows daily work schedule as established by the Machine Shop Supervisor. Verifies work is completed within the appropriate timeframe and quality requirements. Prints travelers.
- Confers with Director of Operations, and employees from other departments to confirm status of work and timelines.
- Prioritizes and maintains the Milling Prove Out Dispatch to ensure that work is completed within the appropriate time frame and quality requirements.
- Trains or arranges training of new and current employees to ensure policies, procedures and work instructions are understood and followed.
- Focuses on continuous improvement in the areas of machining methods and processes. Recommends changes when appropriate.
- Coordinates team backups for absences.
- Confers with Milling Supervisor, CNC Mill Machinist Lead and employees from other departments to confirm status of work and timelines.
- Assists the Milling Supervisor, Director of Operations and CNC Mill Machinist Lead in developing and maintaining policies, procedures and work instructions.
- Performs all essential machining operations; interprets blueprints and related technical data; and troubleshoots / edits G-code format programming.
- Sets up machines per print specifications and operates CNC machinery, including drilling, milling, reaming, boring and threading.
- Selects and installs proper tooling; mounts, aligns and secures work pieces on holding fixtures; and maintains and changes work holding equipment.
- Ensures inspections are completed, including first piece, in-process and last piece inspections, on a timely manner. Confirms with Director of Operations and Quality department to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- Provides input into performance and performance evaluations.
- Responds timely to all inquiries.
- Assists the Maintenance Technician in performing Preventative Maintenance of CNC machinery.
- Safely operates a forklift.
- Ensures machine shop is clean and orderly.
- Complies with all JEM policies and procedures, including ISO, OSHA and AWAIR requirements.
- Supports JEM’s vision and mission and exemplifies JEM’s core values daily.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Physical Demands :
The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and / or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision and Depth perception. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
