Position Summary: As a Floor Care Technician in our senior living community, your primary responsibility is to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of the communitys floors. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that the floors are clean, well-maintained, and free from hazards for the well-being and comfort of our senior residents. This position requires expertise in floor cleaning and maintenance techniques, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.

Essential Duties:

  • Floor Cleaning and Maintenance:
    • Perform routine floor cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming to ensure the cleanliness of all floor surfaces.
    • Utilize appropriate cleaning agents, equipment, and techniques to effectively remove dirt, stains, and spills from floors.
    • Conduct specialized floor care procedures such as stripping, waxing, buffing, polishing and/or shampooing to maintain the appearance and longevity of various floor types, including vinyl, tile, hardwood, and carpet.
  • Floor Inspection and Repair:
    • Regularly inspect floors for damage, wear, and safety hazards, such as loose tiles, damaged carpeting, or uneven surfaces.
    • Report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate department promptly.
    • Assist in coordinating repairs or replacements of damaged flooring materials as directed.

  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to established safety protocols and procedures while performing floor care tasks.
    • Ensure the proper use, storage, and disposal of cleaning chemicals and equipment in accordance with facility policies and regulations.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent accidents and promote a safe working environment.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Keep accurate records of floor care activities, including cleaning schedules, maintenance logs, and inventory of cleaning supplies.
    • Report any unusual findings, incidents, or concerns related to floor conditions promptly to the supervisor.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Coordinate and collaborate with other staff members, including housekeeping, maintenance, and nursing teams, to ensure effective communication and teamwork.
    • Respond promptly and courteously to resident requests, inquiries, and concerns related to floor care matters.
  • Maintaining Inventory and Hazardous Waste Disposal
    • Maintain inventory and prepare orders for needed items (ie Pads, Cleaning solutions) and submits to department head for approval

  • Floor Care Expertise: Possessing in-depth knowledge of various floor types and their specific cleaning and maintenance requirements. Understanding different cleaning techniques, equipment, and products to effectively care for different floor surfaces, including vinyl, tile, hardwood, and carpet.
  • Attention to Detail: Being meticulous and detail-oriented when performing floor care tasks. Paying close attention to the condition of floors, identifying and addressing any issues promptly, and ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and appearance.

  • Technical Skills: Demonstrating proficiency in operating and maintaining floor care equipment such as floor scrubbers, polishers, extractors, and vacuums. Understanding the proper use and maintenance of tools, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
  • Safety Consciousness: Prioritizing safety in all floor care activities. Adhering to safety protocols, such as using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), following chemical handling guidelines, and maintaining a hazard-free work environment.
  • Problem Solving: Having strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve floor care issues. Being resourceful in finding solutions for challenges such as stubborn stains, floor damage, or safety hazards.
  • Organization and Time Management: Demonstrating excellent organizational skills to manage cleaning schedules, maintain inventory of supplies, and keep accurate records. Efficiently managing time to complete tasks within designated time frames and meet residents' needs.
  • Communication Skills: Possessing effective communication skills to interact with residents, their families, and staff members in a professional and courteous manner. Actively listening to residents' concerns, addressing inquiries, and providing assistance related to floor care.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Being flexible and adaptable to changing work demands, including emergencies or unexpected events. Adjusting work priorities and schedules to accommodate urgent floor care needs or other facility requirements.
  • Physical Stamina: Possessing the physical stamina and strength required to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, standing for extended periods, and maneuvering floor care equipment.
  • Teamwork: Collaborating effectively with other staff members and departments to ensure a cohesive and supportive working environment. Communicating and coordinating tasks with colleagues to meet the overall goals of the facility and provide a clean and safe environment for residents.

These core competencies are essential for a Floor Care Technician in senior living to deliver high-quality floor care services, maintain a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment, and contribute to the overall well-being and satisfaction of senior residents.

Work Environment:

Retirement community providing service to senior adults in independent, assisted and skilled nursing community.

Physical Requirements:

Walking, standing, bending and sitting for extended periods. Minimal 25-pound lifting requirement.

Equipment/tools/machines used in performance of this job: Computer, Flooring machines (ie: Scrubbers, Polisher, Buffer), Cleaning and Sanitizing Agents

  • Proven experience in floor cleaning and maintenance, preferably in a senior living or healthcare setting.

  • Understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to floor care.
