Location: Corona Bike Shop | Jenson USA

Reports To: Retail Manager

Hours Required: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Schedule: Weekends Required

Compensation: $19 - $22 per hour

 

The Job

Located in Corona, we are a retailer of all things bike – mountain, road, e-bike, you name it. Our product offering makes for a unique work environment. Our Retail Team is the primary link between Jenson USA and our customers. You can expect an easy-going, welcoming and flexible atmosphere with good people.

Applicants for this position should have a strong interest and passion for bicycles, as well as prior mechanic experience inside the bicycle or lifestyle industry or expertise from a similar industry. This role is considered front of house and will be customer facing. In addition, Jenson USA maintains retail-focused operating hours; Saturday/Sunday work will be regularly scheduled.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Bike Mechanic Duties:

  • Perform bicycle maintenance and repair services, including but not limited to tune-ups, overhauls, wheel truing, brake adjustments, drivetrain repairs, and suspension servicing.
  • Assemble new bicycles with precision and attention to detail, ensuring they meet safety and performance standards.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues accurately and efficiently, providing customers with clear explanations and repair options.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest bike technologies, components, and repair techniques through continuous learning and training.

Service Writing:

  • Greet customers warmly and professionally, assessing their bike service needs and providing accurate estimates for repairs and maintenance.
  • Create detailed service tickets, documenting the work to be performed, parts required, and estimated completion times.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with customers regarding the status of their repairs, any additional issues discovered, and potential solutions.
  • Ensure all service tickets are completed accurately and in a timely manner, maintaining transparency and customer satisfaction throughout the process.

Sales Floor Support:

  • Assist customers on the sales floor as needed, providing knowledgeable advice on bike selection, accessories, and components.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to ensure customers receive comprehensive support and a positive shopping experience.
  • Participate in bike fitting sessions, helping customers find the right bike size and making necessary adjustments for optimal comfort and performance.
  • Support inventory management by tracking and organizing bike parts and accessories in the shop.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certification from a reputable bike mechanic school is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a bike mechanic in a retail or service-oriented environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of bicycle components, repair techniques, and maintenance procedures.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Physical ability to lift and handle bicycles and equipment of varying weights.

Physical Demands:

  • Lifting and Handling: Frequently lift and handle bicycles and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lift and handle heavier items with assistance.
  • Standing and Walking: Stand and walk for extended periods, often for the majority of the workday.
  • Bending and Kneeling: Regularly bend, kneel, and crouch to perform bike repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Manual Dexterity: Use hands and fingers to handle, feel, and operate tools and equipment. Perform fine motor tasks requiring precision and attention to detail.
  • Reaching and Stretching: Reach overhead, and horizontally to access tools and equipment in various positions.
  • Climbing: Occasionally climb ladders or step stools to retrieve items from high shelves or racks.
