Job Title: Design Associate 

Jerry Pate Design, Inc. (JPD) is a professional services firm that provides golf course architecture, landscape architecture, irrigation design, and program management/owner’s representative services. These services include master planning for large and small-scale projects, all phases of design development from schematic design through construction documents and specifications. Project types include, but are not limited to, golf courses, parks, corporate campuses, multi-family residential projects, commercial properties, recreational facilities, and streetscapes.


Job Summary:

The Design Associate has the overall responsibility for design assistance and plan document production for JPD. The Design Associate shall develop an understanding of JPD’s design philosophy and competency in landscape architecture as it pertains to JPD projects and health, safety and welfare issues. The Design Associate is responsible for supporting the Senior Design Associate and other Design Associates in the day-to-day performance and operation of the firm.

 

Primary Duties:

 

  1. Improve in performance, qualifications, and knowledge of job duties every day.
  2. Assist in the design development of JPD projects.
  3. Produce all phases of the JPD’s plan documents to ensure the firm provides, on schedule, professional plans that communicate effectively the design intent to clients and contractors.
  4. Produce plan documents on AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, etc. as may be required.
  5. Coordinate with other design professionals such as architects, engineers, etc. in the development of plan documents.
  6. Research and specify landscape products, vendors, contractors as may be required by specific project needs.
  7. Attend industry related association meetings and any gatherings that will benefit professional development and the development of JPD’s network of contacts.
  8. Provide synergy and a cohesive approach to execution and communication to team members to support the overall business objectives.
  9. Understand and honestly obey the ASLA Code of Professional Ethics in the performance of all duties.


Required Competencies, Qualifications, and Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture, horticulture, etc., or an equivalent combination of education and technical/professional experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite programs, SketchUp, etc.
  • Practical knowledge of southern landscape plants, irrigation systems, and landscape materials and products.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with several types and levels of company staff and external contacts, both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to work simultaneously on many priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize in a professional manner to achieve specified goals.
  • Demonstrated creative and persuasive problem-solving skills.
