Description

The Career Services Advisor oversees and manages the employment process for the institution. Responsibilities include managing and collaborating with the graduates and non-completers on activities that will lead directly to employment. The advisor sets expectations and directions for any placement service provider. In addition, the advisor, with the full participation of the student, designs strategies for placement through planning, trouble-shooting, improvising, bringing in resources (including employer contacts/potential job leads through networking), and developing options. Moreover, the advisor is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and managing a network of employers and conducting employer outreach activities.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Management of Employer Network
  • Oversight of Job Counseling
  • Administration of Job Fairs and Workshops
  • Build, maintain and manage an employer network necessary to promote the hiring of Jersey College’s graduates by:
  • Actively engaging the community and employers in school activities
  • Developing relevant job leads by directly contacting employers, researching current job listings via employment related publications, newspaper classifieds, internet job search sites, and any other potential employment source
  • Conducting meeting and calls with potential employers to promote recruitment and placement
  • Offering assistance to employers in the prescreening process and the coordination of interviews
  • Conducting an annual employer satisfaction survey and reporting the results to management (including action plans for following year)
  • Administrating employment counseling that involves:
  • Assisting former students in securing employment relevant to their field of study
  • Communicating frequently with the graduates and non-graduates to review progress toward job placement
  • Assessing student employability factors and assisting with development of additional skills
  • Counseling students as to career goals, employment opportunities, and proper job search technique prior to and post-graduation
  • Coaching students in developing and implementing a job search plan
  • Resume development for all students
  • Meeting regularly with graduates and non-graduates regarding placement opportunities
  • Organize and oversee workshops and other activities that promote job awareness, including:
  • Administration of placement and licensure records and auditing of the records
  • Conduct annual graduate satisfaction surveys, analyzing the results and developing action plans/recommendations
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Skills and Abilities

 

  • One (1) year of related experience in counseling or an Associate Degree
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional customer service, listening, and teamwork skills

Qualifications


Preferred Qualifications/Competencies:

  • Proven experience of 2-3 years in managing within an educational or business setting
  • Ability to maintain and report on student information and track record of achieving goals
  • Exceptional student/customer service, listening, and teamwork skills
  • An outgoing, approachable style and a passion for helping students succeed
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
