Janitor and Cleaner

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Janitor to join our team. The ideal candidate will maintain cleanliness and orderliness in a childcare facility. This position is part-time with flexibility in cleaning the center after hours.

Duties

• Perform general cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming.
• Maintain floors through buffing, waxing, and polishing to ensure they are clean and presentable.
• Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify areas that require cleaning or maintenance.
• Handle custodial duties such as emptying trash bins, cleaning restrooms, and replenishing supplies.
• Assist with facilities maintenance tasks as needed, including minor repairs and upkeep of equipment.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards while using cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Collaborate with team members to complete larger cleaning projects efficiently.
• Provide porter services by assisting with the movement of furniture or equipment as required.

Experience

• Previous experience in commercial cleaning or custodial services is preferred but not mandatory.
• Familiarity with industrial cleaning techniques and equipment is a plus.
• A strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently are essential for success in this role.
• Must demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cleaning and Maintenance:
• Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors.
• Dust and wipe down surfaces, furniture, windowsills, and fixtures.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and replenishing supplies (soap, paper towels, etc.).
• Empty trash bins and replace liners.
• Clean and maintain kitchen and break areas.
• Perform floor care, including waxing and polishing as needed.
• Other cleaning duties as required by management.
• Sanitation and Safety:
• Disinfect high-touch areas, including doorknobs, light switches, and railings.
• Follow health and safety protocols when using cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Ensure proper disposal of waste materials.
• Report maintenance issues such as leaks, broken equipment, or safety hazards.
• Inventory and Supplies Management:
• Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Ensure all cleaning supplies are stored safely and used appropriately.
• Routine Inspections:
• Perform regular inspections to ensure all areas are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
• Address any areas requiring special attention or deep cleaning.

• Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Previous experience in a cleaning or janitorial role is preferred but not always required.
• Ability to lift heavy objects, bend, stretch, and stand for long periods.
• Ability to spot areas in need of cleaning and provide thorough service.
• Understanding of different cleaning agents and how to safely use them.
• Ability to communicate with supervisors and colleagues effectively.
• Ability to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

Working Conditions:

• Independent working in the facility after hours.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 8 per week
