JES Tech is looking for an Industrial Hygienist (IH) supporting NASA’s Johnson Space Center, Ellington Field, and Sonny Carter Training Facility, you’ll play a critical role in maintaining safe, healthy environments for pioneering personnel.
In this role, the IH will anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control workplace health hazards from chemical, physical, or biological stressors. Perform functions to provide technical expertise and monitor operations related to occupational health programs, including:
- Asbestos Evaluation and Control
- Workplace Health Inspections
- Chemical Exposure Assessments
- Indoor Environmental Quality
- Emergency Response
- Complaint Investigations
- Construction Oversight
- Represent Occupational Health during work area evaluations, test and user readiness reviews, and consult on facility modifications and new plan reviews.
Responsibilities
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental Plans.
- Adhere to Quality Assurance Plans, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.
- Complete all assigned training.
Field Assessments & Sampling
- Perform evaluations and assessments of work areas.
- Conduct ventilation surveys of assigned systems.
- Collect samples and prepare chain of custody for laboratory analysis.
- Calibrate and operate direct-reading instruments and sampling equipment
Reporting & Recommendations
- Recommend and initiate corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit written technical reports.
Collaboration & Communication
- Attend meetings with managers, supervisors, engineers, and workers.
- Provide emergency response and stand-by support.
Planning & Oversight
- Review procedures and plans for new tests, research programs, activities, and construction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- BS degree (or within 6 months of completion) from an accredited college or university in industrial hygiene, biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, or a closely related physical or biological science. Equivalent work experience may substitute for degree.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid driver's license with ability to drive a van or automobile.
- Ability to wear a negative-pressure respirator or SCBA.
- Effective communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and skill sets.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards.
- Familiarity with industrial hygiene field collection, survey, and analysis equipment.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations.
- Understanding of ACGIH and AIHA exposure guidelines.
- Certification as an Asbestos Building Inspector and/or Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor.
