Job Summary
The Research Operations and Integration (ROI) Task Order is seeking personnel for the Operations Pool (Ops Pool) to support spaceflight analog missions conducted at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC). These missions simulate deep space exploration to study human health and performance in isolated, confined, and extreme environments.
This is a PRN (as-needed) position, meaning work is available based on mission schedules. Ops Pool members provide real-time console support at the Mission Control Center (MCC) during active missions. When there are no active missions, there may be no available shifts.
Key Details About The Role
- Ops Pool members are only scheduled when missions are active.
- Missions vary in duration
- Pre-mission and post-mission operations occur during normal business hours, while in-mission operations may require shift work based on mission schedules.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide console support at the MCC during active missions, serving as the primary point of contact for crew communications.
- Coordinate crew messages related to science and operational activities.
- Monitor overall habitat facility status and assess impacts on mission operations.
- Address operational safety concerns and escalate issues to on-call personnel.
- Track timeline execution and update daily status reports.
- Coordinate off-nominal issues and implement the stressor plan as required.
- Monitor Principal Investigator (PI) experiments and operational activities for potential timeline or stressor plan impacts.
- Assist with anomaly resolution in coordination with operations personnel.
- Contribute inputs to Daily Status Reports, mission planning, and real-time operational updates.
- Maintain accurate logs of all timeline activities and off-nominal events.
- Support pre-mission and post-mission activities, including:
- Preparing kits for mission consumables.
- Assembling crew binders.
- Updating documentation and checklists.
- Assisting with crew training and mission readiness tasks as needed.
Requirements
Education & Experience
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in a science-related field, or at least one year of relevant console support experience
Desired:
- Previous experience with NASA or NASA mission operations.
Skills & Training
Required:
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities.
Desired:
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Basic knowledge of AV systems, IT interfaces, and computer peripherals for troubleshooting purposes.
