Job Purpose
This is a full time athletics coaching position. Candidates must be available evenings and weekends. Coaches are responsible for planning, organizing and delivering and appropriate range of sports activities and mentoring for athletic programs, individuals and teams.
The coach is responsible for assisting with organizing and delivering an appropriate range of skill development in sports activities for programs, individuals and teams. This position is responsible for assisting each IDD client population develop their best level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. The Coach assists the Athletic Coordinator and Head Coach with planning and implementing both intramural and organized sports.
Essential Functions
- Provide coaching and schedule practices for year-round competitions with JESPY teams as well as teams from other organizations
- Schedule vehicles for use in transporting the various athletic teams.
- Submitting Dept. Daily Activity Reports to Foothold
- Teach relevant skills, tactics and techniques to clients
- Identify strengths and weaknesses
- Undertaking administrative tasks
Athletic Behavior
Enforces all rules of the NJ Special Olympics for respective sport.Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual client with Client Code of Conduct in mindEnsures that no bullying / hazing occurs in his / her sportEstablishes performance criteria for participation in intramural and organized competition in his / her sportEnsures individual athlete’s eligibilityInjury / Safety
Cooperates with the Athletic Coordinator and Head Coach to verify that no participant is issued equipment or allowed to practice until his / her physical examination has been receivedOversees the safety condition of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that clients are presentReports injuries to the Athletic Coordinator through personal communication, as well as completing and submitting incident reports to Coordinator and documenting in electronic system (Foothold Technology).Exercises great care in dealing with minor injuries involving simple first aid. In all cases, the coach should assure that the injured athlete receiving competent medical care. Following injuries of a serious or prolonged nature, the coach should secure the signed approval of the doctor and parent before the athlete is allowed to participate again in athletic activitiesProvides supervision of all athletes until they have left the building and / or siteEnsures that all windows, doors, and gates are locked in any area that has been used, if applicable.Competencies

Experience sports or degree in related field preferred.Work Experience Requirement

This is an hourly full time positionMust be available to coach team sports on the weekends, evenings & availability for an occasional weekend overnight competition.Valid driving license & ability to drive 15 passenger van is requiredSpecial Working Conditions / Physical / Requirements – Working Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Must be available for coverage on some weekends and after 5pm when required.Valid driving license is requiredMust hold a high school diplomaValid New Jersey driver's license is requiredMust hold CPR / First Aid Valid CertificationSuccessful clearance of NJ background checkSuccessful clearance of Drug ScreeningFulfill the necessary training requirements and is in good standing in order to bill Medicaid for Support and Community Care Waiver (CCW) Services and CDSPhysical Demands
