REPORTS TO: Special Education Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the authority of the Special Education Supervisor, the Psychological/Educational Examiner is responsible for assessing and evaluating students from pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade. Interviewing, observing, and administering and interpreting standardized testing instruments that measure cognitive and academic abilities, or describe behavior, personality characteristics, attitude or aptitude, in order to determine eligibility for Special Education services, placement, or conduct re- evaluation, or occupational guidance and planning.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • To assess psychological and educational needs of referred students and consult with appropriate persons regarding implications and results
  • To provide written report of assessments with educational recommendations to adhere with Federal and State regulations governing Special Education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (2004)
  • To provide interpretation of evaluation results and aide in the development of Individual Educational Plans (IEP) as an evaluation conference member, when appropriate
  • To participate in Evaluation Programming Conferences, Annual Reviews, Data Reviews and IEP meetings at various schools within the district as needed
  • To maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information
  • To assist school personnel in the location, identification and placement of Special Education students
  • To maintain accurate record keeping system of assessment data in a confidential manner
  • To demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills with faculty, staff, parents, students and community
  • To assist in the interpretation of special services to school personnel, parents, patrons and community groups
  • To actively commit to continuous self-reflection and extending personal learning
  • To function under policies established by the Jessieville School District Board of Education
  • To perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by employee's supervisor, the principal, or the superintendent

Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills


Education

Minimum of Master's Degree in a job-related field with an accredited educational institution. The degree should indicate coursework in the principles and practice of educational guidance, educational testing and measurement, counseling, the psychology of learning, and statistics. Other requirements per job description.


Experience

3 years of successful teaching/special education, or counseling experience; other requirements per job description

Certificates & Licenses

Valid Arkansas teaching certificate or license as a School Psychological/Educational Examiner necessary for meeting the position's essential duties and responsibilities


Computer Skills

  • Ability to apply basic computer programs (spreadsheet, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, others) to enhance job performance (others could include e-School, HAC/TAC)

Other Requirements

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all federal, state, and district requirements


Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional documents
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and the general public


Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to perform basic math operations to meet job expectations


Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with situations appropriately to meet job expectations
