What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surety Underwriter position at Jet Insurance?
This position is an entry level role at Jet Insurance Company. Your primary responsibility is to provide efficient client services and perform underwriting for all new inquiries and policy renewals. As an underwriter, you will assess and evaluate risks associated with bond applicants and determine price and terms for issuing bonds.
We pay salary plus bonus. Jet compensates those who create value. The more value added, the more compensation Jet will pay. Below are the following responsibilities of the position:
- Application Processing: Receive and underwrite new business applications from clients via phone, website submission, or mail. Ensure all necessary information is provided and accurately recorded in the system.
- Underwriting analysis and quoting: Review and analyze all incoming bond applications submitted to determine eligibility, based on current Underwriting guidelines. Evaluate the financial strength, creditworthiness, and overall risk profile of applicants.
- Customer Inquiries: Respond to inquiries from customers regarding the underwriting determinations, premiums, and other related business questions. Provide clear and accurate information to assist customers in making informed decisions.
- Communication: Collaborate with other business units, including other underwriters from different business units, to gather additional information, clarify application details, and discuss risk assessments. Communicate underwriting decisions and provide explanations to Business Unit Owners when necessary.
- Market Research: Capitalize on additional marketing opportunities and industry insight through customer relationships and consistent review of competitor pricing.
- Claims Intake: Receive and review new surety claims, utilizing written claims SOPs. Gather essential information such as bond details, loss descriptions, and any supporting documents.
- Maintain accurate business records and documentation of underwriting decisions, including supporting analysis and rationale for out of the box approvals or rejections. Ensure that all necessary paperwork and files are properly organized and maintained.

Job Qualifications:
- Education: A bachelor's degree is a plus but not required.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft and Google applications. The ability to quickly learn the proprietary software used in our underwriting process.
- Communication Skills: Underwriters need to effectively communicate their decisions and recommendations to clients via phone, email, and mail. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary to convey complex information clearly and professionally.
