Summary/Objective

Machine operator 2 position operates mechanical power presses, press brakes, rivet stations, iron workers, punch presses, roll formers and similar equipment to support production of manufactured goods.

Essential Functions of Machine Operator

• Machine Operator 2 Performs typical functions to support manufacturing in a metal stamping/cold formed steel environment.
• Machine Operator 2 Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
• Machine Operator 2 Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
• Machine Operator 2 Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machines.
• Machine Operator 2 Must be able to perform but not limited to the following tasks: Punching, taping, forming/bending, rolling, robotic welding, deburring, measuring, inspecting and data entry.
• Machine Operator 2 Must be familiar with the basic machine functions to perform the tasks stated above.
• Machine Operator 2 Must be willing to accept and receive frequent supervision and assistance regarding machine set-up.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 10 pounds, on a daily basis, up to 30 pounds on a weekly basis and rarely lifts over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED diploma, or three to six months’ related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge and use of required measuring instruments such as dial calipers, protractors, micrometers, scales, and tape measures.
• Knowledge of entering production and quality data into ERP programs.
• Ability to interpret production quality drawings, specifications and standards required to produce acceptable products.
• Capabilities to select appropriate raw materials, tooling components, and materials required to complete shop orders.
• Proficient in use of material handling equipment such as jib cranes, overhead cranes, and capability to obtain internal fork truck certification and train within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Education and Experience

• One to three years’ work experience as a machine operator and/or press operator in a cold formed metal products environment.
• Ability to learn/perform base level troubleshooting regarding simple progression dies. (Fewer than 5 progressions.)
• Ability to set up supporting auxiliary such as but not limited to feeders, straighteners, sensors, uncoilers, coil reels, and spray lubricators.
• Experience using Infor cloud suite and Shoptrac ERP to obtain work instructions and input required data.
