Summary

As a Caregiver you will be responsible for assisting the client in aspects of their daily life as is indicated by their care plan. Caregivers have an important role in allowing our clients to maintain their independence. Caregivers are provided training and tools to be successful in their role, including training on the Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and are provided access to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). CPR, First Aid, and Dementia Training are also provided to all interested caregivers as Professional Development.

Caregivers report directly to Client Care Managers (CCM’s) and are expected to communicate with their CCM regularly, as needed, and be available during their scheduled shift, as necessary. Announced and unannounced home visits will occur two times annually during a scheduled shift in the client’s residence. Caregivers are evaluated by their Client Care Manager on their performance at 90 days and annually thereafter. Caregivers are expected to maintain the integrity of JEVS Care at Home, and are expected to comply with all JEVS Care at Home policies, as found in the Caregiver Manual. Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) is a requirement of the role, and training on how to properly document services and timekeeping will be provided to the Caregiver. The Caregiver is responsible for communicating any EVV compliance issues with their Client Care Manager (CCM).

Responsibilities

  1. The Caregiver will demonstrate understanding of and encourage the independent living philosophy.
  2. The JEVS Care at Home Caregiver will complete a competency examination after attending a training and orientation that address standard regulations. Annually thereafter, the JCAH Caregiver will complete an annual re-certification course and test.
  3. The Caregiver will maintain confidentiality of client information as per HIPAA regulations.
  4. The Caregiver will complete instrumental activities of daily living, according to the client’s Plan of Care, which can include but are not limited to:
    • Assist with ambulation and/or transfers.
    • Assist/administer of complete personal care such as bathing, oral hygiene, hair care, dressing, and skin care.
    • Medication reminders.
    • Meal planning and/or preparation and/or assistance with feeding by mouth.
    • Light housekeeping: dusting, vacuuming, mopping, laundry, changing linens, etc.
  5. The Caregiver will document all services provided to the client, according to the Plan of Care.
  6. The Caregiver will utilize an accepted method of Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) to document all services and timekeeping. This includes the HHAeXchange Mobile App, Telephony with a landline, or Telephony with a FOB.
  7. The Caregiver will observe and record any changes in the consumer that need to be addressed, including changes in the client’s mental, physical, emotional, or environmental situation, and report changes to JEVS Care at Home through their Client Care Manager (CCM).
  8. The Caregiver will practice de-escalation and re-direction for dealing with clients who display challenging behaviors, including Dementia.
  9. The Caregiver will adhere to basic infection control guidelines and maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for the client. The Caregiver will report any environmental or safety concerns to JEVS Care at Home (JCAH).
  10. The Caregiver will practice universal precaution for infection control, including the protection against bloodborne pathogens, as well as handwashing/sanitizing and utilizing gloves when necessary.
  11. The Caregiver will report any and all incidents at discovery to their Client Care Manager. Incidents include but are not limited to: abuse, neglect, exploitation, death, serious injury, hospitalization, provider or staff misconduct, service interruption, medication errors, and reportable diseases, including COVID-19.
  12. The Caregiver will establish and maintain effective communication and a professional relationship with clients, family members, co-workers, supervisor, and all JEVS Care at Home staff.
  13. The Caregiver will Participate in in-service and continuing education programs, staff meetings, and client conferences as requested by the Client Care Manager.
  14. The Caregiver will use equipment and supplies safely and properly.
  15. The Caregiver will adhere to JCAH policies and procedures, as well as all applicable standards of care and governmental laws and regulations
  16. The Caregiver will perform other duties as assigned by the Client Care Manager

Required Education and Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • A High School diploma or GED is required
  • Certified Nurse Aide Certification preferred but not required
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Client Care Manager
  • Completion of Caregiver Orientation
  • Must satisfactorily complete JEVS Care at Home written exam and orientation program 80% passing score on post-orientation exam.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and have the ability to assist with client ambulation and transfers to/from bed to/from bath and toilet. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands; reach with hands and arms.
