What are the responsibilities and job description for the Van Driver position at Jewish Association on Aging?
Do you have a soft spot for seniors? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of seniors? Are you tired of the same old routine? The JAA is looking for a van driver to join our team. The van driver is responsible for a variety of duties across several departments of the organization including delivering meals to homebound seniors and driving community patients to physical therapy appointments. We offer great benefits including the opportunity to accrue up to five weeks of paid time off per year for full-time employees and up to three weeks per year for part-time employees.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
o Operates assigned van in a safe and courteous manner.
o Assists with passengers, including passengers with physical disabilities, on and off the van, operate ramps, lifts, and securement devices as needed and according to operator’s instructions.
o Assures passengers are safely secured in the van utilizing the appropriate safety belt system.
o Delivers meals in a timely and courteous manner. Communicates to supervisor if there is no answer when the meal is dropped off.
o Delivers meals between campuses.
o Reads and interprets maps and driving directions to plan the most efficient route for the patients.
o Performs minor maintenance (e.g., checking oil, tires)as assigned or requested
o Coordinates the schedule for major or periodic maintenance with appropriate personnel as assigned or requested.
o Maintains a professional standard of conduct, projecting a positive image of the Organization at all times.
· Required Skills and Abilities
o Skilled in the operation of vans and equipment
o Knowledge of Squirrel Hill and surrounding areas
o Ability to follow routing verbal and written instructions
o Ability to perform routine maintenance and to identify vehicle problems/malfunctions
o Knowledge of Federal, State and local traffic regulation
o Strong customer service orientation
o Must be able to move freely throughout the van
o Ability to work independently and in teams
· Required Education/Training
o High School diploma/GED
o Valid PA Driver’s License with a clean driving record
· Physical Requirements:
o Lifting: Regularly lifts and moves patients, equipment, meals. Frequently lifts up to 40 pounds. Occasionally lifts and moves patients unassisted up to 50 pounds.
o Carrying: Carries meals, and other items, weighing up to 40 pounds.
o Pushing/Pulling: Pushing and pulling is required when transporting patients
o Climbing: Ability to use stairs, curbs, and walkways
