Summary
Primary responsibility to plan and implement activities as defined by the Early Childhood Education department curriculum and schedule.
Essential Functions

To continuously strive towards achieving the goals of the Early Childhood Education department.

To abide by the guidelines established in the "Staff/Children Relationships" page of the “The Michele Block Gan Yeladim Faculty Manual”.

To ensure the well-being of each child in the program by providing the adequate supervision and support necessary for their safety and educational and emotional development.

To communicate professionally and effectively with parents.

To be punctual and dependable.

To attend all required staff and in-service meetings throughout the year.

To meet all applicable requirements by Florida Department of Children and Families and other agencies and authorities.
To participate as part of a team in cooperative manner with all co-workers; know your immediate supervisor and respond to their direction in a willing manner; do your fair share.

To provide an environment in which Jewish awareness and appreciation of Jewish culture is fostered.

To help enforce Early Childhood Education department policies such as sick policies, carpool procedures, kashrut policy, etc. (Copies of policies are in the “The Michele Block Gan Yeladim Faculty Manual”.)

To have knowledge of all Early Childhood Education department policies and programs to be able to answer and direct questions of parents and JCA members.

To always display a positive and professional attitude towards our program when engaging in conversation with parents and members outside of our early childhood community. Concerns should be expressed directly to the Early Childhood Education Director or Associate Early Childhood Education Director.

To display knowledge and understanding of the developmental levels of the age group with whom you are working.

To collaborate with assistant teacher on a daily basis to bring authentic learning experiences to children.

Plan and document to make the learning visible.

To plan and organize daily activities relating to the established curriculum and skill development guidelines.

To manage and supervise assigned teacher assistants and volunteers.

To be sure that adequate staff/child ratios are always maintained and at all hours of the day.

To always know how many children are in your class and account for them at all times.

To hold parent conferences at least twice during each school year.

To attend scheduled staff meetings.

To attend and participate in preschool related events as requested by the Early Childhood Director which are held outside of regular working hours.

To work on scheduled teacher planning and conference days.

Reacting to change productively, handling other essential tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
Minimum AA degree, preferably in Early childhood education. Bachelor’s in education/ECE preferred for JK and Kindergarten positions.
Language Skills
Ability to speak grammatically correct language which is clear and understandable to the listener and comprehensively understand language when spoken to at a normal speed.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to read, write and comprehend the concept of time.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to use good judgment, i.e., when to call about a sick child; how to handle potentially risky situations, etc.
Other Skills and Abilities
Must be able to follow directions; must be able to relay information to others; must be able to read memos, notes, and in-service materials; must be able to write using proper English and sentence structure; and must be able to successfully complete CPR, first aid and other in-service requirements as needed.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be physically fit enough to move, stand, lift, bend, push, or pull children up to 50 pounds if necessary. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms; and see, talk, or hear. The employee may occasionally be required to run. These physical demands are for a period of up to 8 hours per day.
Work Environment
The working conditions are located on a one level floor with no steps, air conditioned and on the bus route. The employee must be able to tolerate heat for outdoor portions of the day while on the playground. The noise level is usually noisy.
