The Fitness Center Manager is responsible for ensuring the effective and safe operation of the fitness floor, fostering a welcoming environment, and maintaining a high standard of service for members and guests. This role includes staff supervision, equipment maintenance oversight, member engagement, and support for fitness programming. The Fitness Center Manager will lead, by example, uphold the organization's values, and contribute to the department’s goals. This position is classified as Exempt and offers a benefits package. The Fitness Center Manager works a minimum of 40 hours per week, working days are Sunday – Thursday, with flexibility to cover other hours as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

1. Staff Leadership and Management

  • Recruit, train, and supervise fitness floor staff, including floor attendants and personal trainers.
  • Develop staff schedules to ensure adequate floor coverage.
  • Conduct regular staff evaluations, coaching, and performance reviews.
  • Promote teamwork and continuous professional development among the fitness staff.
  • Provide a minimum of 15 fitness floor hours a week.
  • Works closely with the Customer Relations Manager to provide customer experience training.

2. Member Engagement

  • Build relationships with members to enhance their experience and satisfaction.
  • Address member concerns, questions, and complaints in a professional and timely manner.
  • Assist members with the safe and proper use of fitness equipment.
  • Monitor and enforce fitness floor policies and etiquette to maintain a positive environment.
  • 3. Fitness Equipment and Facility Oversight

  • Regularly inspect fitness equipment for safety and functionality; coordinate necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the fitness floor, maintaining a high standard of presentation.
  • Monitor inventory levels of supplies and report needs to the appropriate personnel.
  • 4. Program and Administrative Support

  • Collaborate with the fitness team to support programming and special events.
  • Assist in tracking fitness floor usage, member feedback, and trends to recommend improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide reports on key metrics as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and organizational policies.
  • ESSENTIAL EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS :

  • Preferred bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or a related field.
  • Preferred certification in personal training or group fitness ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA.
  • 2 years of experience in fitness or recreation facility management.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with fitness-related software and scheduling tools.
  • CPR / AED and First Aid certification.
  • Experience working in a community-focused or non-profit environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Operational knowledge of fitness equipment.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
