The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City – “The J” – is seeking an enthusiastic individual with a desire to motivate and help a member base improve their health, and help a team raise their level of professionalism through growth and development in the fitness industry. This person is responsible for scheduling, training, and assisting with the hiring and evaluating the quality of the Group Fitness program, member’s needs and enhancing the program accordingly. This position will assist in creating and monitoring the annual budget and will be expected to stay up to date on their knowledge of group fitness trends as well as seek new opportunities for revenue producing programming.
The Group Fitness Supervisor ensures their team of instructors meet and exceed member expectations in customer satisfaction, fitness goals, and overall J experience. Group Fitness at the J offers over 150 classes weekly to our members, – Les Mills, Rock Steady Boxing, yoga, Pilates, cycling, dance style, water aerobics, and many others!
Schedule: The Supervisor must be available to work a flexible and varied schedule that includes weekday, weekend and evening hours.

Essential Functions
- Ensure that the quality of the Group Fitness program is second to none by recruiting, training, motivating and evaluating instructors on an ongoing basis
- Create and load Group Fitness classes and monitor member participation on a quarterly basis, maintain Group Fitness calendars on website, registration site and Excel, oversee subs and sub list.
- Instruct a minimum number of classes weekly, and be prepared to sub any classes offered
- Schedules and trains a first-rate staff to provide our members the services they desire and remain long standing clientele
- Ensure a high level of member participation in the Group Fitness program by responding in a timely manner to member feedback through Listen 360, emails, and verbal communication
- Manage and maintain safe, functional and attractive equipment and coordinate the maintenance and upkeep of the facilities. Daily studio checks for cleanliness and organization as well as cleaning supplies.
- Ensure staff know how to operate all digital technology equipment safely: SpiVi, MyZone, tablets, ipads, Bluetooth speakers and mics
- Create and promote innovative revenue producing programs and continue to seek new opportunities on an ongoing basis, staying on top of trends in Group Fitness to bring new offerings to the facility
- Work with committees and staff to develop, implement and work existing programs and events as well as new ones that serve the needs for our members and community
- Certified Group Fitness/Exercise instructor (Les Mills, ACE, AFFA, NASM, preferred)
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certified
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Business or related field, preferred
- 2-5 years of supervisory/management experience across areas of focus, e.g. fitness, business, sales & marketing, etc.
- Entrepreneurial approach to growing program participation through innovative program offerings and high satisfaction
- Demonstrated ability to lead large teams, manage budgets, drive revenue and boost customer satisfaction
- Ability to anticipate and solve practical problems and resolve issues while maintaining accountability for results
- Ability to use different software programs quickly and accurately after proper training: Accrisoft, Paylocity, Microsoft Teams, FMX, Microix, Resource Scheduler, ClubConnect, ClassPass, Canva
- Able to work a variable schedule the includes evenings and weekends
- Ability to learn and teach Les Mills choreography and exercise a minimum of 60-minutes, occasionally teaching 2 or more classes a day
- Typically bends, stoops and crouches on a regular basis to assist members or while working with equipment
- Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Requires considerable amount of walking and standing throughout the day
