Who We Are

South Hills Day Camp is located in Scott Township. Owned and operated by the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh, South Hills Day Camp is a co-ed day camp with an emphasis on teambuilding, developing positive values, independence and premiere programming and activities. Our child-centered environment focuses on creating community and enriching the lives of our campers, families and staff. We serve children ages 5-15 through meaningful experiences that focus on building connections, teaching values, fostering individual growth and having fun. The JCC Day Camp experience supports, nourishes and sustains our campers, families and staff. We are professionals who have chosen to make a difference.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Education, certification or relevant experience in camp leadership, education, recreation management or a related field
  • Strong leadership organizational skills
  • Prior experience working with children, staff supervision and program planning
  • Ability to accept guidance and provide leadership to both staff and campers
  • Effective communication skills with staff, campers, and families
  • Good character, integrity, adaptability
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to manage camp operations in a fast-paced environment

General Responsibility:
To assist the Camp Director in implementing, managing, and overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring a safe, and values-driven camp environment for all staff and campers.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Be available for 50 hours of remote pre-camp planning in April and May
  • Plan and implement Staff Week June 9-13, 2025
  • Attend South Hills Day Camp Open House
  • Oversee daily camp operations, including but not limited to morning and afternoon carpool, schedule adherence, and lunch operations
  • Prepare for and actively participate in staff trainings and meetings
  • Participate in inclusion morning meetings
  • Lead daily staff morning huddles
  • Support camp staff by providing coaching and feedback
  • Responsible for daily before and after care operations, programming and staffing, 3:30pm-6pm
  • Assist with end-of season wrap up and facilities management
  • Be a positive, contributing member of the specialist team

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Set a good example for campers including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing cleanup and chores, and sportsmanship
  • Follow camp rules and regulations
  • Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities
  • Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Compensation:

  • $18-$22 per hour depending on experience

Physical Qualifications:

While performing duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally required to lift up to 40 pounds. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to obtain ACT 33/34 and FBI clearances and mandated reporter training.
