General Responsibility:
The Athletics Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the athletic program, including supervising activity counselors to ensure engaging and safe sports activities. They lead by example, running their own activities while fostering skill development and enthusiasm for sports among campers. By teaching and building upon foundational sports skills, they help create a positive and inclusive environment that encourages teamwork, personal growth, and a love for athletics. They will collaborate with their team on all activity lesson plans. The Athletics Supervisor will work in partnership with the supervisor team, and will report to the Director of Administration, Business, and Operations. This position is an “in-residence” position, requiring them to live onsite during employment. Dates for the summer are May 28 – August 5, with flexibility for time off based on other projects the employee may be committed to.
Desired Qualifications:
- Prior experience coaching, teaching, or leading sports activities, especially in a camp or youth setting
- Knowledge and skills in a variety of sports and recreational activities
- Commitment to promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth among campers
- Ability and willingness to accept supervision and guidance
- Organizational skills to plan, schedule, and coordinate athletic programs and activities
- Enthusiasm for working with children and fostering skill development in an inclusive, encouraging environment
- Experience working with children ages 6-16 in a recreational setting
- Possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Capacity to work with a broad range of people
- Strong abilities both to collaborate with a team and work autonomously
Responsibilities/Expectations:
- Attend Head Staff and General Staff Orientation, May 28-June 14, 2025
- Responsible for the supervision of the Athletics Activity Counselors - oversee and support athletic activity counselors, providing feedback, training, and assistance as needed
- Develop and implement structured lesson plans for various sports and athletic activities that cater to different skill levels and age groups
- Responsible for maintaining upkeep of athletic supplies and equipment
- Create and manage the athletics schedule, coordinating with units to avoid conflicts and maximize participation
- Serve as a referee or umpire during games and tournaments, maintaining fair play and fostering a positive environment
- Collaborate with activity counselors with planning and executing all Athletics chugim
- Work closely with other supervisors and camp leadership to integrate athletics into broader camp programming and special events
- Be responsible for planning and executing evening programs as needed
- Facilitate the clean-up after activities as required by the specialty team
- Assists the programming team in set up and breakdown of programs, including but not limited to unit programs, staff programs, and signature events
- Be punctual to all programs and meetings
- Be responsible for the proper use of equipment and supplies
- Cooperate with Camp leadership in matters involving rules, safety, & programming
- Set a good example in all areas of camp life; act as a role model
- Be a positive, contributing member of the camp team
Additional Responsibilities:
- Set a good example for campers including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing cleanup and chores, and sportsmanship
- Follow camp rules and regulations
- Keep a clean and tidy cabin and living space
- Complete duties as assigned
- Attend all staff meetings as directed
- Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities
- Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
Compensation:
- $4,000 - $6,000 depending on experience

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, to touch, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. Frequently they are required to sit. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally required to lift up to 40 pounds. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to obtain or possess PA Criminal History Clearance, PA Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Clearance, PA Mandated Reporter Training, First Aid/CPR Certification.
