Position Overview
We are seeking an energetic Assistant Camp Director to help lead our summer day camp program, school break camps, annual camp events, and other child and family focused programming at The J. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Senior Director to ensure smooth daily operations while fostering a positive, engaging environment for campers and staff.
While the primary focus of this position will be JCC Day Camp, this role will also work with the broader Kids & Families team at The J to collaborate on programming and grow The J’s impact in the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Camp Director in overall program planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Assist in staff recruitment, training, supervision, and professional development
- Oversee daily camp operations, including scheduling, activity coordination, and problem-solving
- Help maintain a safe, nurturing environment that reflects Jewish values and traditions
- Manage parent communications and address concerns promptly and professionally
- Manage Camp Minder, the camp management software platform
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, licensing, and accreditation guidelines and requirements
- Participate in emergency response planning and implementation
- Assist with budget management and resource allocation
- Help plan and lead school break camps, camp-wide programs, special events, and other kid and family programming at The J
- Assist in the management and supervision of Camp administrator and registrar
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Education, Recreation, Jewish Studies, or related field
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in camp or youth programming
- Strong knowledge of Jewish culture, traditions, and values
- Demonstrated leadership and/or supervisory experience, preferably with teens and young adults
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Experience with camp management software preferred (Camp Minder)
- Ability to work extended hours during camp season (June-August) and some evenings and Sundays during the off season
- Physical ability to participate in camp activities and respond to emergencies
