Boston's Jewish Community Day School (JCDS) is hiring an elementary general studies teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.
A JCDS teacher models the core values of a JCDS education: integrity, perseverance/resiliency, curiosity, multiple perspectives/empathy, problem solving, reflection and evidence, and creates a student-centered, rigorous, play-infused learning environment for students. We are looking for teachers who have a desire to work collaboratively with colleagues in the classroom to create a joyful, Jewish learning community.
Responsibilities
You will co-teach a class of about 24 students. You will be responsible for teaching reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science content, as well as skills acquisition. In addition you will:
Build an inclusive community of learners and a classroom culture that is based on authentic relationships and structured, explicit expectations
Develop curriculum and materials that are rich, engaging and innovative, all with a focus on student needs
Implement curriculum and instructional best practices, including differentiated instruction, in the areas of Language Arts Math, Social Studies and Science
Evaluate the progress of students and communicate results with students, parents and administrators
Set up and maintain a classroom space that supports a project-based approach to instruction and that works to integrate General and Hebrew/Judaic studies
Read and implement accommodations and/or modifications as specified on student learning plans
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a cohesive, loving classroom environment
Your skills and qualifications
JCDS hires teachers who possess a positive attitude and an ability to differentiate instruction effectively according to students’ needs and learning styles. Our co-teaching model means we prioritize people who can demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively. You should demonstrate a passion for teaching young children, as well as a deep understanding of how to design and run an academic program that meets the social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of young children. In addition, you should meet the following qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required; a master’s degree is preferred
Creates an inclusive classroom including knowledge/training in supporting students with neurodivergent profiles
Adept at SEL methods to help students thrive
Able to integrate multicultural perspectives into teaching
Familiar with active learning through an inquiry-based, reflective, student=centered approach to teaching and learning
Experience with a range of programs and tools for teaching literacy including phonics, word study, vocabulary development, and reading comprehension skills
Experience with Savvas Investigations for math, as well as enrichment for students who excel
Strong organization and class management skills
Commitment to ongoing professional development
Preferred qualifications
4-5 years of teaching experience
Familiarity with classroom uses of technology
Previous experience with Responsive Classroom and/or similar programs of instruction
Benefits
Salary range is $60,000-$70,000, commensurate with experience and highest degree earned
