JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will play a crucial role in driving the fundraising strategy and ensuring the successful implementation of initiatives at JFCS East Bay that transform lives for the better throughout our community. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CDO will work closely with the CEO to manage high-end donor relationships, focusing on a portfolio of donors contributing $10K and above, while driving key stewardship and solicitation strategies.

The CDO will be responsible for overseeing and mentoring a fundraising team of 4-5 staff. This role will also serve as the liaison between the Board of Directors and fundraising activities, providing staffing for the Development Committee to ensure effective communication and coordination of efforts.

This position requires a dynamic leader who will function as both a manager and individual contributor, effectively driving team performance and contributing directly to development efforts. The CDO will collaborate closely with Communications. Community Engagement, and Client Services teams to ensure alignment with broader organizational goals and realize JFCS East Bay’s mission.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Develop, implement, manage, and report on the effectiveness of a comprehensive fundraising strategy in collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with a portfolio of major donors, particularly those contributing $10K .
  • Work alongside the CEO to ensure high-end donor stewardship and solicitation, maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Lead, manage, and foster a high-performance and collaborative team environment focused on meeting annual goals and growing our fundraising capacity.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Board of Directors and fundraising efforts, staffing the Development Committee.
  • Collaborate to integrate fundraising efforts with community engagement strategies.
  • Act as both a manager and hands-on contributor to ensure fundraising goals are met.
  • Oversee a future endowment campaign for long-term sustainability.
  • Identify, cultivate, and secure new institutional and corporate partnerships to expand funding opportunities and enhance organizational sustainability.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or a related field.
  • 10 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on Major Gifts / Individual Giving and Corporate fundraising.
  • Proven experience managing and cultivating high-net-worth donor relationships, specifically portfolios of $10K donors.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a senior leadership role (e.g., as a Director, Senior Manager, or Executive Leader) with demonstrated success in building and managing high-performing teams.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with other organizational leaders and cross-functional teams, particularly in fundraising and community engagement initiatives.
  • REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build relationships with high-level donors and internal teams.
  • Experience leading and building collaborative teams with a passion for mentorship and development.
  • Strong passion for the mission of JFCS East Bay and the ability to articulate its impact and importance.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to build trust and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Adept at inspiring storytelling from impact data, stakeholder personal experiences, and financial documents.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and demonstrate flexibility in a fast-paced, result-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in fundraising software and donor tracking systems (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, etc.).
  • COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

    The compensation range is $180,000-$200,000 per year, depending on experience.
