What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director, Day Programs position at Jewish Family & Children's Service of Greater Boston?

The Day Program Assistant Director is responsible for developing, overseeing, and providing comprehensive programming in Canton's Community-Based Day Services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Canton is a growing program and currently has about 30 participants. The Day Program Assistant Director is on-site and available during programming to ensure participant safety and meaningful programming, as well as provide in the moment modeling, skill building, and clinical support to staff.

A great opportunity for someone with supervisor experience who can motivate and inspire a staff team by creating an environment that promotes skill development, confidence, positive communication, and creativity, and is interested in being part of a growing program.

 

Highlights

  • Full-time, weekday daytime hours. No weekends!
  • $60-62,000/yr with $2000 signing bonus
  • In-person, Canton location
  • Paid time off includes ample sick time and 22 days of vacation, in addition to national and some Jewish holidays

Responsibilities of the Day Program Assistant Director:

  • Supervise program staff team, as well as ensure quality hiring, onboarding, and training
  • Ensure programming promotes health and safety, community integration, and person-centered support to pursue individual goals and be as independent as possible
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with families, residential providers, interdisciplinary teams, other JF&CS departments, volunteer organization partners, and funders
  • Attend and professionally represent JF&CS at ISP and other participant/team meetings

 

Requirements of the Day Program Assistant Director:

  • At least four to five years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or at least 5 years' experience with the population; master's degree preferred
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Knowledge of DDS regulations, strongly preferred.
  • Ability to independently make safe, consistent, and effective clinical decisions in crisis and non-crisis situations
  • Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate participant goals/activities, operations and staffing patterns.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • A valid driver's license and a reliable, insured vehicle (most transportation will take place in program-owned vehicles) 
  • Ability to pass First Aid/CPR/MAP trainings
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Outlook

CHAI Works helps adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities become more independent, pursue individual goals, and experience the gratification of meaningful, productive activity.

Participants enjoy an array of educational, recreational, and enrichment experiences. They take part in health and wellness activities and a variety of lifelong learning classes. Together with staff, they volunteer each week at local nonprofits where they develop job skills, soft skills, and interests. "In all of the volunteer work they do, we really try to help them understand the impact it has in their community, and how people can receive help and be helpful at the same time," says Kathryn Friel, director of day programs. "They take a lot of pride in the opportunities they have to support their communities and help other people."
