The JFCS Holocaust Center is a primary resource for Holocaust and genocide education in California. Through a deeper understanding of Jewish history, the Holocaust, and patterns of genocide, our work inspires moral courage and social responsibility in future generations.

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Director of Community Education plays a pivotal role in shaping, facilitating, and evaluating educational programs for individuals of all ages. They collaborate with schools, community organizations, educational institutions, synagogues, government, and JFCS colleagues to promote the mission and goals of the Holocaust Center. This position has responsibility for select major community events including the annual Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) commemoration, and reports to the Director of the Holocaust Center.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS :

  • Salary Range : $110,000 – $130,000 (depending on experience)
  • Employment Type : Full-time, exempt with benefits
  • Employer 403(b) retirement match plus additional employer contribution (subject to eligibility)

  • 16 holidays (10 federal and up to 6 Jewish holidays), annually

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Lead the JFCS Holocaust Center’s public programming initiatives and develop events and public programs to reach students, teachers and community members throughout California with special emphasis in the Bay Area.
  • Represent the Holocaust Center by lecturing and teaching at community events and in collaboration with other organizations.
  • Design and facilitate learning workshops, community outreach initiatives, and educational events aimed to promote awareness and engagement.
  • Conceptualize, plan, and produce the annual Yom HaShoah and International Holocaust Remembrance Day programs in collaboration with Holocaust Center and JFCS staff.
  • In response to the aging Survivor population, partner with Holocaust Center staff to expand programming in partnership with second and third generation (2g and 3g) descendants of Holocaust survivors.
  • Develop initiatives to incorporate personal collections and artifacts of Bay Area Survivors in the Tauber Holocaust Archives, ensuring the preservation of these invaluable resources.
  • Manage the University Fellowship, a six-month program that recruits undergraduate or graduate students from the Bay Area colleges.
  • Lead targeted outreach strategies in partnership with the JFCS Marketing Department, to increase engagement in community programming and financial contributions.
  • Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of the Holocaust Center, Executive Director, or other members of JFCS leadership.
  • JOB QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Holocaust studies, Jewish studies, or related subject. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience planning and producing community events.
  • Knowledge of Holocaust history, Jewish history, tradition, culture and community.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in supervising staff, volunteers and interns is required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Google Suites, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and basic knowledge of Excel.
  • Familiarity with presenting, facilitating and teaching with Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Familiarity with databases and information management. Previous experience with Asana and Salesforce is a plus.
  • Able to travel to all regions served by the JFCS Holocaust Center as needed to accomplish departmental activities. If driving own vehicle, must possess a valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance.
  • Ability to occasionally travel domestically and internationally.
