JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Positive Parenting Program team as a Parent Educator. In this role, you have the opportunity to use your teaching skills and child development experience to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across San Diego. The Parent Educator plays an integral role on the team and supports the entire agency by providing learning opportunities for parents and caregivers throughout San Diego County by teaching the Positive Parenting Curriculum to those interested. This position reports directly to the Program Manager and works closely with the other team members and the rest of the Positive Parenting Program team.
Responsibilities :
Conduct Prevention and Early Intervention Parent Education including the Selected Triple P series, Primary Care Individual and Group series in Head Start sites, preschools, elementary schools, and community locations as assignedWork collaboratively with parent education staff to foster a team environment and meet overall goals of programMaintain accurate and current versions of required paperwork and submit paperwork according to deadlines and program protocolProvide outreach to program sites (teachers and / or site directors) to coordinate class dates and times. As appropriate attend Parent meetings, community outreach events, distribute posters / flyers, make follow-up calls, and send appropriate reminders for upcoming classes to ensure optimal attendanceDemonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality for staff, clients, agency, and community, as appropriateEvaluate the need for additional resources and make referrals for mental health treatment or other necessary supportsAct accordingly as a mandated reporter, within the legal time frame appropriate for reporting suspected child abuse activity; assist at the school level in reporting suspected child abuse to County authoritiesBe present and actively participate in staff meetings and training sessionsSeek opportunities for continuing education to strengthen parent skills instruction and share resources with team membersOrganize time / activities and ensure schedule is reflected on the program's master calendarBe punctual for all services provided and adhere to time restraints / limitsUse appropriate materials and adhere to Triple P fidelity when offering services to clientsSkills / Experience / Abilities That Are a Must-Have :
Experience and / or training working in child and adult developmentKnowledgeable in the field of human servicesAbility to obtain formal accreditation as a Triple P provider in Selected, Primary Care and Group Triple PExcellent public speaking skills required for teaching in-person and online classesBilingual and bicultural preferred [Vietnamese, Tagalog, Arabic]Ability to read and interpret documents including memos, academic articles, and project reportsSensitivity to cultural differences present in the program's / organization's service populationProficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point, Outlook, and ExcelMust have reliable transportation to travel throughout San Diego CountySkills / Abilities We'd Like You to Have :
