The New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport is a bold and exciting project to develop a world-class international terminal that will serve as an anchor terminal in the Port Authority's $19 billion transformation of JFK into a global gateway to the New York metropolitan area and the United States. The New Terminal One will set a new standard for design and service, aspiring to obtain a Top 5 Skytrax ranking and be considered one of the finest airport terminals in the world.

 

The New Terminal One is being built on sites now occupied by Terminal 1 and the former Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, where it will anchor JFK's south side. Construction is taking place in phases. The first phase, including the new arrivals and departures halls and first set of 14 new gates, is expected to open in 2026. At completion, anticipated in 2030, the New Terminal One will be 2.6 million square feet, making it the largest terminal at JFK and nearly the same size as LaGuardia Airport's two new terminals combined.

 

The New Terminal One will be a 23-gate, state-of-the-art, international-only terminal. Sustainably designed and future-focused, the terminal will feature expansive, naturally lit public spaces, cutting-edge technology, and an array of amenities, all designed to enhance the customer experience and compete with some of the highest-rated airport terminals in the world.

 

Who you are:

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking IT Manager specializing in Safety, Security, & Facility Systems. This position is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle management of all technology systems within the airport's safety, security, and facilities domains. A key aspect of this role involves close collaboration with IT Operations throughout development, implementation, and ongoing operational execution.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Manage the IT Business alignment towards the Safety & Security of the airport (dealing with the physical security) and to the Building/Facility domain of the airport and provide overall direction for the day-to-day technology activities of the operation.
  • Design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure the system’s capacity meets existing and future requirements.
  • Set priorities for the design, maintenance, change management, and enhancement of all systems and services in this domain such as video surveillance, gunshot detection, access control, Maximo, PRA (passengers with reduced mobility) button, Baggage handling system, etc.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, for Safety, Security, & Building/Facility system administration and changes for the business and airport
  • Establish service level objectives and service level agreements in coordination with the IT Operations unit.
  • Design and publish service and performance benchmarks and reports.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on products, services, protocols, and standards to support Terminal systems evolution and optimization and create product roadmaps
  • Conduct feasibility studies and Proof of Concept implementations for various upgrade scenarios, improvements, and other conversions.
  • Identify cyber and other IT-related risks with associated risk mitigation strategies consistent with appropriate industry best practices.
  • Regular contact, building relations and co-ordination with major system providers and other application providers
  • Direct and prioritize activities across incidents, problems, and project work in coordination with IT Operations Director and escalate as needed
  • Define hardware and software standards in conjunction with IT team members and business stakeholders.
  • Create and sustain IT asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Exposure in these physical Safety, Security, & Building/Facility systems (including the integrations/interfacing that come with that).
  • Working knowledge of ITSM activities with a focus on Continuous Improvement
  • Ability to make decisions and recommendations on technology strategies.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional/cross departmental teams and perform under pressure
  • Ability to exercise strong judgment in analyzing, appraising, evaluating and solving problems of a difficult procedural, organizational, administrative or technical nature.
  • Ability to manage vendor relationships, including hosted systems and vendor-managed applications.
  • Keep abreast, advice management of new technology trends that will facilitate improved efficiency, lower cost and add value to passengers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and great leadership skills.
  • Adept at project, change and risk management.
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university, which has included major course work in Computer Science, information science, systems analysis, software engineering, or a closely related field
  • 5 years related information systems experience in a management capacity. Including 2 Years experience working in Airport or Airline IT operations preferred
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, product management, stakeholder management, and project management skills.
  • Project management certifications (PMP), or experience would be an asset.

Where will you work:

This role will be hybrid and is currently located in Building 111 at JFK Airport. As NTO progresses towards its operational phase, your role may transition to the terminal, where you will be directly involved in the day-to-day activities of this state-of-the-art international terminal.

 

This role requires a valid Secure Worker Access Consortium (SWAC) clearance and/or Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge, which will be obtained and maintained throughout employment. Successful candidates will be subject to a background check and other security clearance procedures. Candidates who cannot obtain and maintain this credential will not be considered for employment.
