Press Operator

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The goal of the Operator is the safe production of quality product through efficient machine operation, and effective troubleshooting to maximize overall equipment utilization. We are looking for individuals who are reliable and able to work with attention to detail and in a safe manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

This listing of “Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities” is designed to guide and help identify the expectations of this role and to support the department and business to ensure that our customers receive the highest quality product possible.

All Press Operators

• Operate automatic presses and related equipment (press, straightener, feeder, stacker, Smart Pac, etc.).
• Assist set-up team with set up and die changes
• Perform coil changes and move material from the coil all the way through the die
• Use and understand quality control instruments (micrometers, calipers, etc.) and fixtures and record findings
• Stack or pack parts as needed
• Demonstrate ability to effectively 5S and sustain work center on a daily basis.
• Ensure quality of parts produced
• Perform other company related duties as assigned.
• Training team members on technical job duties and responsibilities
• Run presses and equipment at Standard Rates.

Level 2.1

• Demonstrate ability to use measuring devices and fixtures associated with quality checks.
• Demonstrate ability to use RFPRO effectively and record all times accurately.
• Demonstrate ability to use JobWeb and refer to job work instructions as needed.
• Demonstrate proper start up and shut down of the press, feeder, straightener, and mandrel, and identify the various parts of this equipment and describe their purpose.
• Demonstrate proper documentation of Checkweb/Job Communication and able to identify proper transactions.
• Demonstrate proper reporting of operations scrap and rejects in RFPRO.
• Demonstrate ability to load a new tool, check if sensors are enabled and change counters in SMARTPAC
• Demonstrate ability to identify and apply lubricants referring to the operations setup sheet.
• Demonstrate ability to locate packaging instructions and properly label and package products including banding skids properly
• Demonstrate ability to identify minimal troubleshooting issues and contact the team leader for assistance. (Stock Alignment, Setup Issue, Quality Issue, Maintenance Issue, All Call Issue.)

Level 2.2

• Demonstrate the ability to identify various material defects.(Rust, Edgewave, Oil Can/Center Buckle, Camber, Crossbow, Lamination, Coil Break, Coil Set, Rev. Coil Set.)
• Demonstrate ability to make proper adjustments to work material in the straightener.(Press Specific)
• Demonstrate ability to independently operate press, feeder, and mandrel.(Press Specific)
• Demonstrate ability to perform operator duties during a setup.
• Demonstrate ability to independently change counters, verify counter for lube on smartpac, also verify auto enable function.(Smartpac)
• Demonstrate the ability to Inv. Xfer Raw Materials to press line and Raw A.Iss/Xfer raw materials according to current WI. (RFPRO)
• Demonstrate the ability to adjust feeder stock guides for stock alignment. (Press Specific)
• Ability to identify nonconformance issues and abide by WI 112.
• Independent problem solving skills. Identify and correct a staged problem. (Stock alignment, tool set up issue) *Does not include die repair*
• Run one press and machines in department

Level 3.1

• Demonstrate ability to understand basic faults in smartpac. (Counter, Short Feed, Part Ejection.) Also, contact correct personnel as issues arise.
• Demonstrate ability to understand and make proper choices utilizing the operations schedule.
• Demonstrate ability to understand and refer to "Do I Run Out The Coil Instructions" in Jobweb.
• Demonstrate ability to perform a setup utilizing the jobweb setup sheets and work instructions
• Demonstrate ability to perform a lead check and verify on setup sheet.
• Possess Forklift Certification.
• Demonstrate the ability to correct a staged problem (stock alignment, setup issue, quality issue).
• Run three presses and machines in department

Level 3.2

• Sustain acceptable Attendance record (not to exceed time-off accrued)
• Sustain acceptable P.P.M. level ( To be determined quarterly)
• Sustain avg. operator Attain % ( To be determined quarterly)
• Demonstrate ability to load a new coil from scratch.(Center On Reel and feed material through Straightener) Press Specific.( Must be able to achieve correct coil set)
• Demonstrate ability to effectively prestage in accordance to Setup Prestage Work Instructions.
• Demonstrate ability to setup a tool in press in accordance to setup sheet. (Press Specific)
• Completion of JPS Wintress SmartPac Training.
• Demonstrate ability to properly fill out all paperwork associated with the setup process.
• Setup Sheet, Bolster Print, Request For Change Form.
• Ability to Set-up and run all presses and equipment in primary department.

Level 3.3

• Understand computer systems for online work instructions/CheckWeb.
• Must be able to operate, run and setup all equipment.
• Assist Setup/Team Leader to effectively prestage all tools, fixtures, gages,shakers, etc. to reduce internal setup time.
• Successfully complete skill level testing criteria for 3.2 Operator Developed.
• Assist in setup/steel bay area when multiple set-ups are in progress.
• Strive to Improve Processes that currently don't meet company standards.
• Understand how to perform 1st and last piece quality check.
• Support Operations Dept. to reduce overall downtime.
• Support Operations Team when Team Members are absent.
• Ability to Set-up and run all presses and equipment in all departments.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Must be able to read and write.
• Add and subtract decimals, fractions, and percentages. Capable of using various machine tools, micrometers, calipers.
• Mechanical ability a must.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Extensive standing, recurring bending as well as moderate to heavy lifting.
• Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
• Continuous mental and/or visual attention to operate machine(s).
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.

TRAVEL:

1. This position will have limited travel.

LANGUAGE:

• Must read and write in English

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

• The use of safety glasses & hearing protection is required while in any manufacturing area.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Considerable and continuous noises.
• Exposure to hazards where failure to exercise extreme care could result in severe injury.
• Working in a safe manufacturing environment
• Must wear appropriate safety equipment when deemed necessary
• May be working in noisy, dusty, greasy, or wet environments.
• Some disagreeable elements present, such as hot and humid, fumes, etc.
• Exposure to various odors, dust, cuts, or burns due to corrosive and/or heated tanks of chemicals, noise, etc.
• Intermittent exposure to weather conditions
