This role provides resident-focused leadership, ensuring high-quality care and positive outcomes. The Assistant Director of Nursing will also assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Department Oversight
- Assist the Director of Nursing (DON) in organizing and supervising the nursing department.
- Serve as a clinical and leadership resource for nursing staff, ensuring high-quality resident-centered care.
- Participate in on-call rotation with the DON.
- Provide unit management coverage as needed in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
- Serve as a member of the management team, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.
- Report staff concerns and recommendations to the DON through daily rounds.
- Encourage resolution of staff concerns and operational issues at the lowest supervisory level.
- Assist in establishing annual departmental objectives in collaboration with the DON.
- Represent the organization in professional organizations and committees.
Infection Control & Quality Improvement
- Lead the implementation, tracking, education, and management of infection prevention programs.
- Serve on committees and quality improvement teams as designated.
- Monitor the resident care plan process, ensuring quality care and making recommendations for improved outcomes.
- Assist in the development, review, and revision of departmental policies, procedures, and job descriptions.
Staffing & Performance Management
- Develop and revise staffing patterns to effectively meet resident needs.
- Monitor staffing schedules and ensure adequate coverage.
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate per diem nursing staff.
- Interview applicants and make recommendations for hiring.
- Assist in orientation, evaluation, and ongoing support of per diem staff.
- Monitor per diem staff compliance with departmental and facility standards.
- Complete performance appraisals for nursing staff and assist the DON in oversight and approval of evaluations.
Budget & Operational Support
- Assist the DON in preparing annual operating and capital budgets and monitor monthly budget performance.
- Support the DON in monitoring pharmaceutical reports, including drug usage and medication errors.
- Communicate medication-related issues with the pharmacy contractor for timely resolution.
- Oversee the disposal of discontinued and expired controlled substances in compliance with state regulations.
Requirements:
- Current registered nurse licensure in New York State.
- Infection Prevention Certification (must obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Clinical expertise in nursing practice and long term care.
- Knowledgeable in minimum data sets (MDS 3.0) and regulatory standards of practice.
- Proven skills in professional and community leadership.
- Effective verbal and written communications skills.
Salary Range
- $98K
