Vice President of Accounting

JK Executive Strategies is proud to partner with a growing real estate investment firm with offices in Rochester, NY and New York City in search of an experienced Vice President of Accounting to join its team!
In this role, the Vice President of Accounting will oversee the preparation and delivery of accurate financial reports for senior leadership and key stakeholders. Responsibilities include setting and enforcing accounting policies, managing accounting software, researching tax and accounting regulations, and collaborating with external accounting firms. The Vice President of Accounting will work closely with the Director of Finance and CEO to shape accounting strategies and processes for the firm's team.
We are looking for a tenured Accountant who will have a deep understanding of accounting practices, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines with precision. The candidate should have knowledge of, or experience working in the real estate, development, or construction industries, as well as a strong focus on customer service, demonstrate flexibility, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Set, implement, and document accounting policies and procedures across the company’s portfolio and operating companies. Work with the accounting team to execute within these guidelines on a consistent basis.
- Deliver timely, accurate financials in consistent format to company’s management team and other stakeholders.
- Perform consolidations of financials across the portfolio to create financial statements for different funds and holding companies, with proper accounting for NCIs and similar.
- Interface with outside accounting firms and consultants on accounting procedures, tax policies, etc.
- Work closely with the company’s accounting teams in different markets to ensure they are properly instructed and supported to execute daily functions efficiently and accurately.
- Implement certain treasury and cash control procedures in conjunction with company’s Director of Finance.
- Review and audit management company income and expenses to ensure proper allocation and billing in accordance with contracted terms.
- Entity management including up-to-date entity org charts, EIN administration, ensuring proper legal documents exist, maintaining entity ownership list, and ensuring adequate insurance is in place, etc.
- Participate in construction budgeting, general forecasting, variance analysis and various financial modeling projects.
- Assist the external CPA with reporting to federal, state and local taxing authorities.
- Prioritize and manage work appropriately and follow through on issues in a timely manner.
- Create new processes to improve financial and operational efficiency.
- Additional duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting from a four-year accredited university, required; Masters, preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant designation, preferred.
- 8 years of accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Real estate, development, construction, manufacturing experience, required, or applicable industry experience.
- Deep understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial statements and budgets based upon them.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to streamline accounting practices.
- Ability to exercise judgment in performing subjective accounting analysis.
- Strong organizational and planning skills and an ability to perform under deadline pressure.
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to successfully and professionally manage multiple projects, priorities and changes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experienced information gathering, information monitoring and critical thinking skills.
- Solid work ethic with ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

- Able to maintain confidentiality of matters.
- High proficiency real estate software such as Yardi, RealPage, or AppFolio, as well as QuickBooks, MS Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must be willing to travel to NYC as necessary (estimated 20% of time).
Salary Range: $150k - $175k
