Position Summary
A Mill Operator is responsible for ensuring the mill is producing a quality product as specified by the Nutrition Quality Department and confirmed by outside lab. Operator reports to the Production Manager.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
The individual is responsible for maintaining compliance with the Huber Sustainability Management System (HSMS) within their sphere of influence. This may include compliance with any air permits, wastewater permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements. In addition, compliance with all MSHA, FDA and other regulatory agencies is required. Responsible for bringing all environmental, health and safety and / or quality incidents or concerns to management for resolution.
Potentially Significant EH&S Impact(s) : In charge of monitoring their equipment for visible emissions, shutting down equipment with visible emissions and reporting emissions to their area coordinator. Deal with petroleum spills properly.
1. Inspects mill area for unsafe conditions daily.
2. Operates mill in a safe and efficient manner.
3. Performs preventative maintenance servicing of equipment as required.
4. Ensures equipment is locked out before repair work begins.
5. Conducts Mill service, PM’s and assists Maintenance with minor repairs of equipment as directed.
6. Produces and loads materials as established by the Plant Manager or Production Manager.
7. Inspects incoming raw materials on trucks before unloading occurs.
8. Fills out paperwork such as : batch records, plant orders, sample bags, lift truck inspection reports, etc.
9. Keeps work area, warehouse and outside of plant in a neat and orderly condition following GMP guidelines.
10. May direct one or more personnel in the packaging process. The operator may be required to perform packaging duties based upon location or under direction of the Production Manager.
11. Advises succeeding Operator(s), Supervisor / Management and maintenance of operating problems and conditions.
12. Employees must learn and observe all applicable company policies and safe practices and perform all duties assigned by supervisor. This description covers the significant duties of the job but may not include occasional assignments which would be within the evaluation of this job.
Specialized / Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Technical school a plus.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years industrial experience or a combination of education and experience.
- Willing and able to work and act safely.
- Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations that include the following : multiplication, addition, and percentages – all of which can be accomplished with the use of a calculator if needed.
- Must have good overall communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Must be able to read and comprehend company safety manual policies, operating procedures, SDS and various production schedules / reports.
- Must be able to lift and move 50 lbs (constantly throughout shift if packaging) for an entire shift, must be able to frequently ascend and descend ladders using 3 points of contact, climb stairs on and off a forklift, must operate a forklift using hand and foot controls and occasionally stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and crawl. Must be able to work in a dusty environment where temperatures vary from extremely hot to cold, work in humidity and around various chemicals.
Physical Requirements
Qualifications Required : Must be able to operate automatic and manual packers, set bag weights, operate bulk bag filling station, operate forklifts, assist operator in monitoring automatic pack out system. Troubleshoots and solves problems, services equipment, and cleans the plant. Must comply with all company and GMP / FDA rules and regulations and complete annual GMP training. Assists in ensuring top quality housekeeping is maintained. Performs other duties as directed by Area Manager.
Works in control room and in plant with exposure to heat, cold, noise, vibrations, grease, oil, ground Aluminum Trioxide, slurry and somewhat dirty conditions. Plant milling system equipment is located on multiple levels and requires climbing stairs or stationary ladders to monitor and / or adjust its operation.

In addition to base compensation, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and profit-sharing payout.
