About the Role 

JM Longyear is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager Engineer to lead and manage engineering projects from initiation through completion. This role requires a strong technical background in engineering, excellent project management skills, and the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams. 

 

The Project Manager Engineer will be responsible for defining project scope, developing detailed plans, managing budgets and timelines, mitigating risks, and ensuring successful project delivery that meets or exceeds stakeholder expectations.

 


Essential Function / Duties

Project Planning and Definition

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define project objectives, scope, and deliverables.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and communication strategies.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments.
  • Define project roles and responsibilities.

Project Execution and Management 

  • Lead and manage cross-functional project teams, including engineers, designers, technicians, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress against the plan, identifying and addressing any deviations or issues.
  • Manage project budgets, track expenses, and ensure projects are delivered within financial constraints.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring timely completion of milestones and deliverables.
  • Facilitate project meetings, track action items, and communicate project status effectively to stakeholders. 

Technical Oversight and Problem Solving 

  • Apply engineering principles and technical expertise to guide project execution and resolve technical challenges.
  • Review and approve engineering designs, specifications, and other technical documentation.
  • Ensure projects adhere to relevant industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Identify and analyze technical risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project team members.

Stakeholder Management and Communication 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders including clients, vendors, and contractors.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and issues clearly and proactively to stakeholders.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and address any concerns or conflicts effectively.
  • Prepare and present project reports and presentations to management and stakeholders.

Quality Assurance and Control 

  • Implement and monitor quality control processes to ensure project deliverables meet required standards.
  • Conduct regular project reviews and audits to identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping throughout the project lifecycle.

Project Closure and Lessons Learned 

  • Formalize project closure, including final deliverables, documentation, and signoffs.
  • Conduct post-project reviews to identify lessons learned and best practices for future projects.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of project management methodologies and processes within the organization.

Work Schedule / Supervision

Position: Full-time: 40 hours per week; travel = 20% to company locations

Position Status: Exempt position; without compensation and without notic

 

Recommended Education / Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g., mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical, industrial) or a related technical field. A master’s degree in engineering or project management is a plus 

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering, with a demonstrated history of successfully managing engineering projects. Experience in financial aspects of project including NPV and abandonment. Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., Waterfall, Agile) including Lean concepts. Preferred: Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification and/or other relevant industry-specific certifications.

Technical Skills 

  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices relevant to the industry.
  • Proficiency in creation and maintenance of Gantt charts with Microsoft Project, Excel, Smartsheet, or comparable project management software.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and reports.

Project Management Skills 

  • Excellent planning, organizing, and time management skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage and motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Risk management and mitigation skills.
