Overview :
Our client, a prestigious global law firm, is seeking a mid-to-senior level associate to join their Washington, D.C. office. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience with export control laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Experience with economic sanctions statutes is a plus, but the primary focus is on export controls.
This role requires a blend of legal expertise and business acumen, along with strong communication, organizational, and time management skills. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, proactive, and comfortable handling high-stakes, international matters in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Advise clients on U.S. export control regulations, including those administered by BIS (Bureau of Industry and Security) and DDTC (Directorate of Defense Trade Controls).
- Draft, review, and submit regulatory filings to U.S. government agencies.
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda on international trade law matters.
- Assist with due diligence, including reviewing agreements in data rooms and summarizing key terms.
- Communicate directly with clients, government agencies, and international legal teams.
- Draft legal memoranda on a range of regulatory and compliance topics.
- Support senior attorneys with complex international trade matters.
- Participate in educational seminars and practice group meetings.
